This is obviously from years ago but MIL's recipe for nut roll was lost and I was wondering if anyone here makes Nut Roll and has a good recipe.

I'm thinking this should be under recipes.

Thank You if you do.

Re: looking for a recipe for nut &poppy seed rolls

My Polish and Slovak grandmothers both made these for Easter and Christmas and other important events.  I have each of their recipes.  I will dig them out and post for you. They are both very good.

Re: looking for a recipe for nut &poppy seed rolls

From the Slovak-American Cookbook

8 cups flour   1 lb. butter    1 tbl.  lard

12 eggs       1 cup sugar   1 cake yeast

2 tsp salt

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water.  Set aside.   Combine flour, butter lard, salt & eggs - add yeast & blend thoroughly.  Place in refrigerator overnight.  Next day divide dough into 7 or 8 parts - roll out each part.  Spread with fillings.

Nut Filling - 4 lbs.  nuts, ground - 3 cups sugar to sweeten.

Poppyseed Filling - 3 pounds poppyseed - 3 cups sugar to sweeten.

Bake at 350  for 30 minutes.

Hope this is what you are looking for.
