I don't own a dishwasher and the sheet pans are easy to clean. I went to my borther's house years ago with a cake pan which he placed in the dishwasher. I don't know what material it was made from and it turned funky - weird coloring - perhaps aluminum? It just doens't look pretty anymore

i have seen that when a sheet pan gets dark from alot of use to spray them with oven cleaner and let sit for 15 minutes and scrub them and they come out really clean. not for like one use but when they get crappy looking from years of use.

Yep, best thing to do is read directions or look at the stamp. Just use mine for cookie baking why I just give a swipe and rinse.

I use parchament paper as many others here mentioned . I then just rinse off and drain in dish drainer. Mine are the air bake ones by Wilton I believe. They have been great until Ms. Clumsy was putting into the high up cabinet she stores them in and dropped one. It was not good for it. instead of taking to a body and fender garage I am going to replace soon.
I found a hint somewhere to 'scrunch up' the parchament paper , then smooth out on the pan to be very helpful.
I do wash jelly roll sheet pans that I use for roasted vegetables into the dishwasher and find that helpful .

There is indeed something different either with the detergent or the metal. All my new things get all coated with grey stuff that smears off. I have always used the dishwasher.

I have half sheet pans from a restaurant supply store. They’re made to be abused and I don’t baby them. They go into the dishwasher. They’re not as shiny as they once were but I don’t care.
exactly what i do!
i usually get mine from sams club.
no need to baby them at all and they are workhorses for many different foods......not just cookies.

If there are any baked on spots I scrub with a damp microfiber cloth.
@lovemybichonfrise, a few years ago we dumped all our nonstick sheets and bought Chicago Metallic. Love them. But they should not go in the dishwasher. Like you, we just line them with parchment paper.

Oh my goodness! I was thinking about this thread when I watched one presentation on this morning's kitchen show.
They were selling this pair of things that had a rack and partial pan so you could put your pies, or whatever, on that to keep from putting them on a baking sheet and having half the pie spill out onto and get stuck on the baking sheet.
REALLY? They do work so hard sometimes to convince some people that they need stuff they don't need but this one took the cake.
How boutcha don't massively over-fill the pie AND, while you're at it, put down either a Silpat or a sheet of parchment paper on the baking sheet instead of just a pie plate on top of a baking sheet?
Good for them, for selling stuff. But things like that where they show a massively exaggerated thing to convince people they need something they totally don't need tends to get my goat. ![]()

@Perkup wrote:Most of mine have air between two sheets of aluminum. I think they were called "air bake" sheets. They can't go in a dishwasheer or be submerged in a sink.
OOPS! I know mine have been submerged in a sink. Too late now but thanks for writing that - I won't do it again.
