i never buy anything from a deli. if it's a pre-made salad, i make my own. cold cuts, too high in sodium and how often do they take the ham or turkey out of the case to slice it? all day and many fingers on those hunks of meat.
my mother likes those cold cuts and i wait in line for her 1/4 lbs of ham and salami and turkey. i can live without it.
i worked in a corner deli as a teen. the manager used to mix the macaroni and potato salads in a huge industrial kitchen bowl, using her hands and arm. then offer us a taste from her hand.

No, I get my deli meats and really good cheeses at Costco and I don't buy bakery items, I make my own.

I always go to the Fresh Market for the deli and meats. They are just a regular trip added in for me. I love that I can get small quantities and enjoy my time there.

@lgfan me too. Luckily my Publix and Kroger are sorta back to back although not in the same parking lot. In fact, Publix used to be the Kroger. They both carry Boars Head and I'm not that particular about the deli. I will make a trip to Kroger for their Signature Selections bread though.
I'm dying for a chance to go to the new Trader Joe's in the neighboring town.

In our rural area of NC, the closest grocery is Food Lion. On Sundays we drive a bit further to shop at Publix and sometimes Harris Teeter. The meat at Publix is better quality and their bakery has terrific sourdough and Italian breads.
We can't seem to find everything we use at one store any longer.
Pre-pandemic, I would stop at Trader Joe's or The Fresh Market if I had a doctors appointment in Charlotte. And then there was the occasional trip to Costco....

No, there is nothing offered at a deli that we will eat. I prefer making our own food. I usually visit more than one store for particular items.

No. To me, most of the grocery store deli's are basically the same. I do buy polish loaf for my furbaby, an occasional genoa salami for me, and russer ham for my elderly neighbor (she loves it and only from Goretti's). I will stock up on their store-cooked turkey breast sandwich meat when on sale - and Eddy favorite! And, since Subway no longer makes a seafood salad grinder , I'll purchase a pound of that when on sale - Eddy helps me devour that stuff!
I go to Goretti's, the only market in town because they are close, very personable there and they always donate to all town activities. I guess it's the "we take care of our own" mentality.
This little market is known for it's meats. Though there's not as much items available there as in the many surrounding city/town markets, this one is always packed with customers from the surrounding area, too.
So for convenience sake, I shop at the local supermarket unless I need some laughing cow cheese for Eddy's pills as Stop&Shop has the 'mostest' choices and I need soy sauce - like their's the best. I don't like grocery shopping so keep my time spent to a minimum.

I've never tried a store-bought potato salad, cole slaw, egg salad, tuna salad, etc. as good as I can make myself, so I avoid disappointment by not getting them ready-made, no matter how much I crave them at the moment..
These days, if we want some sliced ham or smoked or roasted turkey, we go to the local HoneyBaked Ham store and have them slice it while we're there. Or we buy their pre-packed foil bags of turkey or ham slices, if the date shows they were sliced in the last day or two.
However, HoneyBaked stores sell lousy potato salad. I was very disappointed in what I tried there.

In this one store they make these coconut pecan cookies that I love so much! They are soft, not hard or crunchy, which is how I like cookies. But I love coconut so much that I cannot resist them and the pecans are just the icing on the cake.
OMG I wish I could reach in and take one.
@rms1954 I wish you could, too! They are so good. I'm trying to find out the recipe for a friend of mine who lives on the other side of the country, where they don't have SaveMart stores (all of our Albertson stores, years ago, were purchased by this SaveMart entity) and she loves coconut as much as I.
Not having much luck there but found one recipe that had a pic that looked about the same. I'm not going to make them. I'll stay loyal to the store because I am happy with the ones they bake. Ok, and I'm too lazy at this point to go to the trouble.
Next time I'm there I want to ask at the bakery to see if there is a way to get the recipe for her, though. Fingers crossed!
