Washing kitchen linens...❓❓❓

I've always done one load a week of whites. I use a long cycle with hot water and bleach. However, I've recently found a couple of long hairs on my clean dish towels... TOTALLY GROSSED ME OUT. I think hair in the kitchen is the most gag-worthy thing and I'm super careful about it, but never thought about the laundry. I'm ashamed that it has never occurred to me before now.

Do you wash your kitchen linens separately?

I cook a lot, but even so I think it would take a month before I had a full load of dish towels and micro-fiber dish cloths.

Do you have a separate hamper for kitchen things?

I only have a couple of drying kitchen towels so put in with load of bath towels.  If the 'hair' is mine - I wouldn't get grossed out.......hair has been through the wash cycle = so should be clean.

Personally I'd never think to get upset.

@house_cat  We have a separate small hamper in the laundry room that holds kitchen towels and dishcloths until they get laundered. They getted washed alone, no bath towels.

DD and I seem to accumulate enough for a load quickly. We change kitchen towels daily and always have 2 or 3 a day.  Same with microfiber cloths. I grab one instead of a paper towel most times.

DD and I both have a "thing" about kitchen towels and buy them too much. DD will come home with some and annouce, "I saw these and thought they were cute, pretty, etc".

We must have at least 40, we need a 12 step program.

@house_cat

I share your thoughts on hair in the kitchen.

We wash our kitchen towels, pot holders, etc separately.

I always tie my hair back in the kitchen.

All of my towels in the house are white.  Everything gets cloroxed together and dried.  The nurse on our staff said no germ could survive the procedure.

Yes, I wash my kitchen linens separately.  It may be a small  load but I prefer to wash bathroom & bedroom items on their own.

Some people here are seriously germaphobic.  Clorox will kill anything in the wash.  You must not have pets.

separately with bleach.  i keep soiled kichen linens in laundry room until enough for small load.  it is also the only laundry i do in hot water.  i would not want to put kitchen linens in hamper with bath towels and underwear.  even if i knew it was our hair and clean i would not want to find it on dish towel.

@Retired Legal Secretary.  Oh my, I need a 12 step program, too! I usually get them at kohl’s after the holidays, and get them on clearance + my coupon.  Good quality.  I’ve told family, please no more.  I wash them with bath towels, but change every day or two.  I always have two or three hanging on my stove handle.  I probably have enough for life.
