Re: Ultra-thin TRISCUIT crackers--really good.

@drizzellla : Thank you. I have the cheese on my next shopping list. I told DH about this and he remembered the cheese and wants some.

All this talk about the Old English Cheese. I already put it on my grocery list to buy, the next time I go grocery shopping. And I figure I am going to buy a box of Ultra-thin Triscuits to go with it. I can't wait.

@silkyk

That happened to me also at school (I also liked cucumber sandwiches - I never could understand why none of the kids would trade sandwiches with me!

My father hated liver and my mother never cooked but he loved liverwurst sandwiches with sliced tomatoes and lots of lettuce but he never knew what it was and we never told him!

The only ingredient in the triscuits I could enjoy is the sea salt. We only eat/use avacado oil and can't eat the wheat because of the carbs.

@Susan Louise

You still may not want to indulge, but I just wanted to mention that Triscuit crackers are 100% whole wheat.  I don't generally eat "white" carbs, but do eat 100% whole grain food, so Triscuit passed the test for me.  Not a health food, but better than most crackers.

@shoesnbags  Carbs are carbs. They still turn to sugar - white or brown/whole wheat. We live a low carb/keto lifestyle and keep track of our macros daily.

As for the canola oil, most vegetable oils cause inflammation. We learned that when we started this lifestyle. Hence, we only use avacado oil. We could use olive oil, but we don't like the flavor added in our foods...we don't even like olives. Avacado oil is virtually flavorless, so it's great to use for everything. It is more expensive, but worth every penny for us.  Smiley Happy

As I said, you may not want to indulge.  Personally, I have always enjoyed fruits and veggies since childhood and just naturally gravitated to fairly healthy foods.  Not much of a meat eater, either.  Never been overweight in my life, so I do indulge to some extent.  Triscuit is one of those indulgences.

@shoesnbags  Not everyone can...

We have to watch our blood sugar. Late in life, both DH and myself developed issues. We became insulin resistant. DH became a type 2 diabetic and I became pre-diabetic.

There are a lot of slim & trim folks who also have to watch their blood sugar levels.

As for fruits and veggies, we have to be extremely particular on which ones we can eat. We can't eat starchy veggies. We haven't had corn in about 3 years and rarely share a potato. Fruits are limited to certain berries, and we will share an apple or a manderin orange serving...which is 2.

So many folks also don't even realize they have high sugar levels because they don't even get them checked. It isn't until they start having health issues later in life like what happened to us.

Watching our carb count daily and keeping it low like we have been doing for about 3 years now has kept our blood sugar level normal.

Will look for thin variety!   I have been obsessed with gouda flavor!  So ooo good.  Never thought of liverwurst on these crackers.  Worth a try.  Love my happy hour Triscuits with horseradish cheese.

Imagine that........nutrition lectures on a thread about cheese and crackers.

Sorry to unknowingly bring up  a controversial target for disapproval from those who might not wish to eat those foods and  somehow feel the need to advise others not to.

To those who don't mind eating a few  low-calorie, low-fat crackers occasionally..........BON APPETIT.

One of my favorite things to spread on Triscuits or many other crackers is  Kraft Old English cheese in  tiny jars that sometimes  can be hard to locate in a store.  They usually get stocked in the dairy and cheese aisle, but can be just about anywhere on other grocery shelves.

Just about anything else also goes well on Triscuits.

Just got back from the grocery store. There were at least 25 jars of Old English cheese.

So I bought a few jars. And that is going to be my lunch. Thanks for mentioning it.
