DH and I miss The Ground Round. I don't know if there are any left anywhere else, but the one in our area closed.

Wasn't there a Ground Cow somewhere north of San Francisco? Seems like I remember that.

There are plans to reopen a Steak & Ale at the end of this year - don't know where though. There will be a focus on different types of beer but I hope they keep the salad bar!

Anybody remember The Dutch Pantry? It was Amish style food but was a chain. I can still taste their salads with different mixtures of cheese and topped with their incredible Sweet & Sour dressing. Yum!!!

And yes another big fan of S & A.

I miss Love's BBQ. They had the most wonderful ribs.

I used to like it too - I think most closed, but a few are still around the NY area. What was especially nice was how the restaurant was divided - one side for families with kids, and the other with the bar was just for adults who wanted peace & quiet.

Anyone remember the old White Tower restaurants?

I miss Chi-Chi's (Is it just gone around here?) I loved ground beef chimichangas

Ahhhh, good ol' Chi-Chi's. I definitely miss that place. I had heard they filed for bankruptcy and closed all their stores. I still see that brand of salsa in the stores, but that's about it.

Bridgeman's also was a great place. All of them I knew of have closed up too. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

We used to go to Steak and Ale and Bennigans all the time after work when we were first married. Bennigans had the BEST strawberry dacquiri ever! Didn't they both close in the 70's or 80's???

I didn't read the article, but I've never even heard of ANY of the places that were mentioned in the posts on this thread. Is this pretty much a regional bunch of closings?

Oh, how I loved me some fried clams from Ho Jo's. lol When I was pregnant I had to go to the hospital every week for non stress tests and I would stop at Ho Jo's on the way home. Steak and Ale was good, too. My son was about 8 when he ordered the escargo. I had one and my DH pretended to have one! There was an Italian family restaurant that had the best pizza--the crust was TDF.

I used to work at a Ho Jo's when I was in college. We had lines out the door on fish and clam nights! The Ho Jo's I worked at was open 24 hours. We also had a huge crowd after the bars closed on Friday and Saturday nights.
