The only one on that list that's in this area is Fazoli's - the food is so-so; I wouldn't miss it if it were gone.

Some of the places I do miss are Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips, The Magic Pan (there was one near my office in NYC), and Child's restaurants (NYC).

The best burgers EVER were from a placed called The Hamburger Train in NYC; it was a hole-in-the-wall, but always packed - you'd see news anchors (from NBC across the street) and company presidents sitting at the counter next to typists and secretaries - it was loved by everyone; I can't believe it's gone - it was immensely popular.

Cats3000 - you know, that building will always be "The Pan Am Building" to me - I don't care what they call it now! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1} Are Hot Shoppes gone? I stopped at one only a couple of times, but can't remember them well, if they were good or bad - in fact, I only remember them at all because one of my cook books is from there.

There's a place in Chattanooga that has a restaurant in a railroad car - The Choo-Choo, I think.

Anyone a fan of Ted's Montana Grill?

THE PICKLES...................{#emotions_dlg.w00t}

Yep....that is the main draw! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} They taste just like the pickles I grew up eating in NYC, and last time I went to one in Decatur GA, I told the waiter that. He informed me they're "imported" from NJ! {#emotions_dlg.laugh} He was a nice young man and brought me a small bowl filled with them, so they found their way into my purse.

Currently the one closest to me is in Kennesaw, and when I go there I'm going to see if I can't buy some pickles to bring home with me. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

I miss Steak and Ale's salad bar......it was always fresh and cold and loved their Hawaiian chicken.....

Also miss Bennigan's Monte Cristo sandwich....

We still have a Magic Pan and a Chi Chi's here....never been to Chi Chi's and no desire to go.

Steak and Ale was the first steak house restaurant I remember going to in a big city. There was also a really good restaurant in Oklahoma City that served crepes but I cannot remember the name of it. Think it was part of a chain, but is no longer open. Anyone remember what this is?

Editing this as I think I just remembered it. Believe it was The Magic Pan. Anybody remember this?

OMGosh, I have such fond memories of the Magic Pan. Grew up in Colorado and we had one downtown and another in a shopping mall in the burbs. It was a tradition for my mom and I to go shopping and then finish with lunch or crepes and tea at the Magic Pan. They had the best pea soup, and all their crepes were wonderful. The cherries royale was a particular favorite. I miss that place. Bennigan's is another fond memory, used to go there with friends for happy hour or brunch, their Monte Cristo was the best, and also their deep fried mushrooms w/ranch dressing....YUM! For sure not health food, but lots of good times. The other place that I remember growing up that closed was The Peppercorn, a steakhouse but with a very eclectic menu. I enjoyed it because my parents would let me order a virgin-pina colada and it came in the big fancy glass with the umbrella and all the foofoo. They were known for doing over the top drinks. Oh I would love a Monte Cristo right now. {#emotions_dlg.wub}

I remember The Magic Pan for crepes, and how about Pewter Pot and Mug N Muffin for a huge pot of coffee or tea on left on your table and yummy muffins? Or Brigham's for ice-cream.

I don't really miss the restaurants cited in the article. We generally prefer to eat at local establishments rather than chains (although of course we do eat at chain restaurants from time to time). However, I do miss Steak and Ale. DH and I enjoyed eating there. I always had the "Kensington Cut" steak, a tender sirloin cut flavored with a wonderful, distinctive marinade, and we loved their big salad bar. I feel sad every time I pass one of their shuttered restaurants in metro Atlanta. Some still have the old S&A signs up.

I wish someone would revive Steak and Ale!

I do not understand that if ALL of us wonderful people loved Steak and Ale.........They why did they close.........{#emotions_dlg.w00t} GoodStuff........If you are from the Atlanta area, then you may remember the Steak and Ale that I ate at, and the Bennigan's at Southlake, and one up I 85, past spaghetti junction.........{#emotions_dlg.unsure} But nothing.........and I mean NOTHING would even compare to the original Pilgreen's.........{#emotions_dlg.wub}

I'm in north metro Atlanta and usually ate at the S&A near Northlake or one on the north end of 285 in Dunwoody. Pilgreen's is an old Atlanta restaurant name, but we didn't eat there often. I think there may still be a Pilgreen's south of town.......isn't there?

I used to live in Orange County, CA and I LOVED the The Magic Pan!

I grew up in Orange County. Was the Magic Pan in Irvine or Costa Mesa (south coast plaza) ?

The Magic Pan that I went to was in Orange. There was a shopping center called Fashion Square with Bullocks, Robinsons and Nordstrom down the street from Saint Joseph's Hospital and Children's Hospital. I was born in Pasadena but moved to Orange County when I was about 8 years old. Great place to grow up! I now live outside Seattle - also a great place to live!

Oh, okay. I worked right across the street from that mall, which changed to "Main Place" many moons ago{#emotions_dlg.lol}( at least 25 yrs ). I no longer live in the "OC", but it's a mere twenty minutes away. Next time I'm at the Main Place, or South Coast Plaza, I'll look for the Magic Pan.

One place I really liked but didn't go often. It was in New York City. Lindy's. OH my they had the best sandwiches (named after actors/actresses).

places around my home town, Bob's Big Boy's,. loved that place. it is where dh and I dated all those many years ago.

places missing around where I live now. Hollihans , Bennigans, Steak n' Ale, Chi-Chi's.

I know I will think of more places as I try to remember old eating establishment.

DH and I miss The Ground Round. I don't know if there are any left anywhere else, but the one in our area closed.

Wasn't there a Ground Cow somewhere north of San Francisco? Seems like I remember that.
