Re: Scared off a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer purchase!

Yes, that Sunbeam looks very familar.  It can be removed from the stand for use as a hand mixer.  What a racket it makes though.

Re: Scared off a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer purchase!

There was a KA in my mother's kitchen, but I have no idea where it came from.  I just know it was old already as I learned to use it in the mid-1950's.  We had one bowl, one set of beaters, 3 speeds.  The white it once had been had yellowed by the time I was using it.

Now I have a cinnamen red KA from QVC.  It's working just fine.  I do more with my machine than we ever did with that old model, but I don't know if that was because that's all it could do or all my mother wanted it to do.  I also know my machine looks prettier - as if that matters.

Re: Scared off a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer purchase!

My KA mixer is over 35 years old.  It runs in perfect condition and I have never had a problem with it.  I use it a lot and make heavy batters in it.

My kids and I got together and got my sister a KA mixer from Macy's.  In about a year, it started to act up.  I called KA and they sent a box to send it back to them and they sent her a new one...free of charge.

i am comfortable with KA.  I know that they still manufacture parts and stand by their products.

i hope your 70 year old Sunbeam works out for you.  It is a romantic to buy a model that brings back good memories, but you have no warranty.  Do you know if it breaks, can it be fixed for a reasonable price? Sounds like you paid almost $200 for a used 70 year old mixer...yikes!

Best of luck.  I hope you made a good decision....I say that with the best of intentions.

@Icegoddess The seller is on vacation until October 6. That is only 2 weeks away, believe it or not!

I am not going to worry about not getting it until mid-October anyway, and will be watching the order status...

My goodness OP you don't have to buy a KitchenAid mixer from QVC!! I bought mine from BB&B years ago and haven't had a stitch of a problem! Love it! I was able to use their 20 percent off coupon and get the color I wanted delivered FREE to my door in two days. The Q can't do that.

I don't know if any of the KA mixers are still made in the USA; their website doesn't say.  I wouldn't pay the KA price for something made in a "23rd world country".

Re: Scared off a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer purchase!

I can't say anything about the newer KA mixers - except I have a hand held one that works very well, however, my 75 year old KA stand mixer is going strong. It was a wedding gift to my parents in 1943. When I was little we lived on a farm & my mom didn't work, she baked bread with that mixer every day. She also used it to churn butter. that is a lotta stress on a mixer but it got through it all.

Now I use it mostly to mash potatoes and make cookies. It gets a lot of use at Christmas.

@homedecor1 It sounds like your family is like mine - we keep on using things as long as they keep on working for us. I love it when someone notices my vintage mixer.

Re: Scared off a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer purchase!

I've had my Kitchenaid since 1998 and it's still going strong but the paint job is showing it;s age a little, kinda like me.  I found the exact same one on Facebook Marketplace in mint condition for $125.00, and bought it for a backup in case my old faithful Kitchenaid goes caput !!!!

MY kitchenaid is about 30 years old. I bought it at Costco when it was called Price Club.
