It all depends on what you are going to use your mixer for. I make a lot of yeast breads and my 7 qt KA can knead a double batch of dough for ten minutes while I do another chore somewhere else in the kitchen (and do a better job than I could doing it manually).
Same story with big batches of cookie dough - I just can't handle big batches of stiff dough anymore.
If you just need a mixer for cake batter and similar things then, no, you don't need a KA. You can do those things with a hand mixer.
And yes, KA is still made in the USA.

@lilmopeepGood for you, hope it works for ever for you. I gave away a perfect working Sunbeam, thinking I would update to a newer Kitchem Aid. This is over 2 years ago. I bought a stand mixer from QVC, that the bown fits down over screws. It was expensive, I hate it and used it 1 time. You can hardly get the bowl off or on, and if the bowl was very full of a liquid, you would throw it all over yourself.Do not buy this horrible model. It won't be long till it's given away too. I use the hand mixer I have a KA, and I think the turning off and on button is very strange. Wish they would model these things by someone who actually uses them.

I have the most basic KA stand mixer that I bought 20+ years ago that is still going strong and working just great. Even have a few attachments for it and it preforms just fine. Not impressed with the KA hand mixer my hubs got me a few years ago--will trash that one for something different.

We had an Sunbeam up until a few years ago when we purchased top-of-the-line KA stand mixer and never looked back.
I agree with the idea that there are many reputable places to buy.

I've had my KA for many, many years with no problems. I've used the Sunbeam you just purchased and it doesn't compare, but I hope yoy will be happy with it.

Have you ever had any oil leak out of you Kitchen- Stand-Mixer if you hadn't used it in awhile ?

I have owned 3 KA mixers - one from Costco, one from Williams Sonoma and one (the mini) from QVC. I have never had any kind of oil leak, or any other kind of problem for that matter, from any of them.
Where does the oil leak from? Did you perhaps apply too much oil? I would call KA customer service.

I purchased a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer several years ago, and after using only a few times the paddle attachment would not come off then or now. Spent alot of money for something I'm stuck with. I would recommend a different brand.

I'm pretty sure my mother had a Sunbeam when I was younger. I remember that large speed knob at the end of it.
