I read this many years ago also.  I think it's so inconvenient to wash these bags in order to keep them sanitary. 

 

I prefer using the grocery store's plastic bags and discarding the ones that get wet and the dry ones I use for liners in the bathroom's small wastebaskets.  I recycle everything I can.
