I too am in CA and have to use reusable bags.  I just read how they are full of bacteria after a few uses.  I think I have to wash mine, what a waste of water.

I wash 6-7 at a time in my washing machine. If the bottoms are hard plastic, I remove and wipe down.  when they come out I stand them up and let them dry in shape- occassionally I turn them upside down.  When dry I fold them up and put them away.

Same for me. Fold them in half then keep one bag for keeping all the others in - on the floor of the back seat.

All of mine fold flat, so I just have them in a nice, flat stack on the passenger seat.

The reason I keep them up front is because not only am I usually the only one in my vehicle, but when I had them in the back I would forget to bring some into the store, then get mad at myself for messing up.  This way, they are right next to me in a neat pile so I can just grab however many I need du jour.  Smiley Happy

I always forget mine when they are in the trunk..Often having to walk back out to my car to retrieve...keeping them on passenger seat is such a good idea!

Re: Reusable Grocery Bags

[ Edited ]

I live in California and am very happy that we have banned plastic bags. Even before it was the law, we were using reusable bags that we bought either at TJs or WF.

I wipe them out occasionally. I'm not fanatic about it.

ETA: We still of course have the smaller recyclable plastic bags for produce and meat, so no contamination from them.

They've been required here for many years, so I've gone through lots an lots of them. I keep them all in one bag, inside my trunk.

The fabric ones can be machine washed occasionally.

I keep a container of Clorox wipes in my kitchen and wipe out the plastic ones before I put them back to reuse.

In CA we are now allowed to use plastic bags.  We do get them at dept. stores, but I think I read that will end soon also.

I use LOQI reusable bags.  They're very strong and hold a lot.  They fold up and are stored in a zippered pouch.  I have used these for years and ordered them from Amazon.  They come as a set of 4.  They are easily stored in the side pocket of my car beside the driver's seat.  They also don't take up a lot of room and could possibly be kept in your handbag.

Amazon also sells Envirosax, which come in a set of 5 and are the same type of bag.

NickNack, I have a set of the Envirosax that I got as a Lightning Deal from Amazon several years back & I've never used them!  I keep them in the little bag in the backseat door cup holder.  I'll have to give them a test drive next time I go shopping.  I'll take a look at the LOQI ones.  I've tended to grab the fabric ones with longer handles.  I have several from Trader Joe's & an insulated zip top one from Whole Foods.  I also have a large insulated tote that I got at Costco, but it's in the back & I seldom use it, though I might if I put it up in the back seat with the other bags!

I also have one of those Sacchi 3 slot trunk organizers, too. I just bought a new car last month & in my old SUV, I kept a couple of old plastic milk crates in the back to corral my full grocery bags or put Costco items in & my old car had carpet on the floor in the back & this new one has a hard plastic liner & I found the milk crates  just slid around all over the place since there's nothing "grippy" between the milk crates & the liner.  The Sacchi works a little bit better, since it has rubber feet, but it's not perfect.  I'm thinking I may need to go somewhere & have a custom piece of carpet or rubber made to go over the liner, so things stay put back there.

@aubnwa01  I think you'll like the Envirosax bags if you try them.  I had a set of them, and when I sold my car this summer I accidently left them in my old car when I traded it.  I bought the Loqi bags because I  liked the pattern, but they're almost identical to the Envirosax.

We pay a deposit on bottles and soda cans, so I use fabric bags to store the empties...then when I go to the store and turn the empties in, I have the bags right there for my groceries.  I keep them in a foldout fabric cube in a corner of the kitchen at home.

That's ridiculous!  They banned them at the grocery store but not department stores?
