When they first came out, I thought how ridicules to spend money on a bowl to put scraps in. Then my SIL got one and was in love with it for mixing in it on granite counter tops, no slippage with rubber bottom. She uses for everything except microwave.
I got it and just love this bowl! The red is very pretty and I ended up getting my daughter a purple one. I also love the feel of this bowl and rubber bottom.
Most of these posters can only focus on the word Garbage bowl. It is just a bowl like any other bowl that can be used for multiple applications. The benefit to this bowl is when mixing, the slip free bottom that is very useful when using on granite counter tops. This is high quality Melamine, not a cheap plastic bowl found at Dollar stores.
I bought it because I think it is pretty, I like the shape and I wanted it. Some might think $16.99 is expensive for a mixing bowl, I do not!
Last time I will ever pass on something I thought was a good deal!!!! So people get over it!
Geez!
I think the reason posters "focus" on the word Garbage bowl is because that is what it is called??? and RR has always called it that on her show on Food Network.

I was surprised to see this thread still going. Somehow the controversy makes me want to buy one. I personally love the look. I use glass bowls and have broken many, many. I am checking them out again....Thank you Chicagoan for sharing the find.

I agree with many other posters. Why pay 17 bucks for something you can buy all day long at a dollar store.....besides, the plastic bags I bring my groceries home in work just fine.

Your welcome chips.... I was watching "Nashville" this week and Deacon had a Garbage Bowl sitting on his counter. I had to laugh, I thought if these ladies seen that it might throw them over the edge...

This thread is reinforcing something I have always wondered about....do you people have better "dollar stores" than we do her in NJ? Honestly, how good is the quality of something that they might make 6 cents profit on? Towels=fall apart, aluminum trays=can barely hold a lb of baked ziti without caving in, jewelry=falls apart on first wear, toiletries=do I have to even comment?, food=well that would scare me to death if it didn't kill me first considering it more than likely came from China. IF you buy any of the above my question(that I would think in my head) to you would be WHY??? Look, I am all for the dollar store to but gift bags and tissue paper, but the way some people talk it really has me wondering if you guys somehow, have access to all these great products for....a dollar. And if the thinking is it is only a dollar so if it falls apart it is no big deal, that might end up costing you in the end when you don't realize how many times it has to be replaced. I for one know I won't find the equivalent of this pretty bowl that I wouldn't mind keeping on my counter and use over and over at the dollar store in my area. Buy what you want and what makes you happy people.
Didn't think you would mind the highjacked thread Chigagoan!!!

^^Tiamaria, posters might be using "dollar store" as a generic term. There are, I think, actually three different stores, maybe more, with "dollar" in the name that all sell low-cost items, at least here in the South.
Dollar General -- not everything costs $1.
Family Dollar -- most things cost a multiple of $1.
Dollar Tree -- everything costs $1.
HTH
If you like the RR bowl, keep your eye on Walmart. They have them in red, green, orange, and blue on closeout for $19.99, but they'll probably drop the price soon as they're being discontinued.

You go girl... I agree 100%, Dollar stores are not where I would shop for my kitchen! To each his own, there's different types of stores for every shopper.

Looking for a garbage bowl? I found a nice big flower pot at a second hand store that has a base of 10" and a height of 8"...makes the perfect garbage bowl when lined with plastic grocery bags...my cost? $1.00...worth the whole dollar I paid. Beautiful ceramic with a lovely design on it...Amazing how we can re-use items without spending a fortune. I never have to clean it...I just put in an old plastic grocery bag, grab the handles and throw it in the trash when done...been doing this for over 5 years. Not a new concept.
