Question please.  Last year at an antique store. I saw a beautiful extremely long handled with a very large spoon shaped end spoon.  I assumed it was a buffet spoon.  Your thoughts please?

I wanted it but was co.ing down with a UTI and left.   She wouldn't ship it to me from the beach.

@ECBG Oh those are wonderful and often expensive.  The really big ones are usually stuffing spoons or rice spoons!  My only rice spoons I have are plated ones I got at Middleton Plantation for joining to pay for tickets and their publication.

Sorry you missed a good opportunity.  They are very useful!!!

@ECBG and others:  I'll add that the gumbo spoons are most often right at 7 inches in length and have deeper bowl than the cream soup spoons.  I sometimes eat my bran flakes with one if I'm using a very round bottomed bowl.  I also like the big old dessert spoons that are longer and not round.  All in all it says I am messy.

My favorite ones are Towle Louis XIV and Fairfax.  Both are really sturdy and comfortable to eat with and very helpful in waylaying soupy spills.  I started buying these on vacation and stopped buying t-shirts!

The handle was about the length from my wrist to my elbow!

The end was almost the size of my cupped hand but half the depth.

I went to the shop today, of course she sold it, but it was a stuffing spoon!  Now I know what to search for!
