Re: Lock and Lock - Bread, Bacon, and Egg Containers

I have two one dozen egg keepers and one dozen and a half egg keeper and my eggs are never wet and none have ever molded...now the bread keeper...moldy bread all of the time.  I use it for other things.  The bacon keeper is always in use. Love it.

@World Traveler I have the same problem with my bread and the bread container too.

@World Traveler: I don't even use the bread container for bread. I use it to store lettuce or celery. You don't necessarily have to use it for bread.

I had mold growth on the eggshells. Would not recommend.

Re: Lock and Lock - Bread, Bacon, and Egg Containers

I had purchased this set years ago when it was first offered. There were complaints then about the egg keeper allowing too much moisture.  It didn't take long to realize it was more work to move the eggs from the Stryofoam container to the L&L.

I tried to use the bread container but the bread did end up moldy in there as well.  We go through so much bread in our home now that it doesn't pay to put the bread in a container anyway.

I never buy bacon so I wasn't using that container for its intended purpose.

As a result of all these issues I got rid of this set very quickly.

@Diva on The Q Yes, I know. But that is the reason I purchased the set, for the bread container. I liked that it was not square but the perfect shape for my bread.

I don't have this set, but I do have two egg keepers.  I am not a fan.  The eggs are always wet in the keeper.  Moisture always builds up in there.

I only use my keepers when we go camping to transport the eggs.  I remove the lid when I get there.  I don't know if others have this problem, but I suspect they do.  I wish the keeper had vents for the moisture to escape.

I fold a paper towel lengthwise and place it on top of my eggs.  No longer have any issues.

Re: Lock and Lock - Bread, Bacon, and Egg Containers

I don't understand the problem some seem to have with eggs and bread getting moldy in L&L.

For around 15 years I have used it very successfully, in numerous ways.  As to the eggs, which I seldom buy unless I need them for a recipe,  L&L stores them perfectly well.   Now, if there was any moisture on them I would towel them off before putting them in and sealing them up.  Then, in the refrigerator they go.   Never had one incidence of mold.

As to the bread, I can keep it easily in pristine condition in L&L for at least two and a half weeks.   Do know that I'm super food-picky, so what I'm saying is that it stays perfectly good even to me (who used to get rid of it a few days after purchase before L&L).

The only thing that comes to mind is that people are putting wet food in them and not making sure it's dry, or they are putting it in a warm place like near the stove or a window or a wall that gets hot in the warm weather.

But maybe even if you are in a humid climate that could make a difference if humid air is trapped in there.  That's a thought, too.

Also, as to produce, I always make sure that it completely dry before putting it in L&L.  Wet produce will go bad more quickly.

Re: Lock and Lock - Bread, Bacon, and Egg Containers

[ Edited ]

Years ago, I read somewhere that eggs should be refrigerated in their original carton--not in those little egg cups often found in fridge doors or in sealed containers.

I have owned the L&L egg keeper for years, but only use it to store prepared deviled eggs, not fresh ones.

The deviled eggs keep just fine, although they seldom last for more than two or three days due to "popular demand" by hungry people.

Love the L&L egg keeper just for that use.   It might just be a little too airtight to let fresh uncooked eggs "breathe", or something like that.
