I don't get it, I've never used anything under my crock pots and I've lived in houses with everything from formica to ceramic tile to corian to granite and never had a problem. Although I'll never have corian again, I did manage to melt the counter when quickly set a hot pan from the stove on it because I was burning myself through the pot holder.

I have granite countertops and don't put anything under my crock pot. It's never been a problem.
I do put casseroles and baked goods on a baking rack to cool. Our granite installers said that putting a hot cake on the granite countertop would cause the granite to take the heat right out of the cake pan, thereby decreasing the overall height of the cake. Some tile countertops will do that, too.
I told one of my co-workers about that and she just stopped dead and looked at me. "So that's why my cakes are falling!" Here she has tile countertops and she was taking her cake out of the oven and putting it right on the countertop with no cooling rack. She'd come back about 30 minutes later and her cake had fallen. She started using a cooling rack and no more fallen cakes.
Never heard of putting anything under a crock pot, although I probably would if I had Corian. Thankfully, I don't.

If you google ""granite trivet"" you will find lots such as this one on etsy.

Thanks Mima, I never heard of Etsy. I might just look into one of those.
PamelaSue - that is very helpful info! I never put a hot cake pan on the counter and now for SURE I won't!!
I have granite counters. I never put anything under my crockpot, but ALWAYS put a trivet of some sort under everything else.
DH laughs at me and says I am defeating the purpose of granite since you can put a hot pan/pot right on it.
I tell him GO AWAY and leave me alone! LOL
Trivets for protection are ingrained in me I suppose. Doilies as well, but I finally am giving those up!
I would love a beautiful piece of granite...some of my trivets are quite dorky looking! Do you remember the old days when we would make them w/ yarn on some sort of a loom? I still have one of those!

Yup, its black granite. Lots of times when you have new countertops made the piece they cut out for the sink can be scaled down and made into a cutting board. Usually you have to know to ask what they are doing with "that" piece they cut out that you "paid" for!!!!

I have purchased a couple black large silicone counter protectors and they are great. I loved the first one so much I bought another on ebay. I think I got the first one at wayfair.com or amazon.com. There are silicone pot holder trivet that look similar. I keep them next to the stove burners I am using and it keeps food from getting between the stove and counter top plus I can pull a pot over on to it, and use it to lay my spoons and spatulas on.
I put one under my crock pot also as it gets hot. I used to use large cork trivets.

Crate and Barrel carries very nice slate pieces backed with felt in several sizes.
I have three of them and use them as trivets as well as serving pieces for cheese etc.

I have one of those from years ago. Guess I should be using it under crockpot(s). I have Corian and never had a problem yet, but you never know.

I have absolute black granite and I went to Lowe's or Home Depot (cannot remember which as it has been years ago) and they had the absolute black granite tiles at $2-3 each which was far reduced from the usual $10-20 at the tile people and I bought 4 to use as pot pads. Been using them successfully for about 10 years and they match my absolute black counter tops.
