LOL I put a skid proof bath mat on top of our fridge so my cats would have a soft place to hang out up there.

I have Tiffany style lamps, a lot of art on the walls, a baker's rack with all Murano green ducks, and my table and chairs which were created for a dining room, but are not formal, also two My Pillow dog beds, tv and dvd player, and a standing artificial tree in a corner with beaded fruit and birds.

Your kitchen must be huge.

My mother had this plate hanging on her kitchen wall for as long as I can remember. When she passed away, my sister gave it to me and said Mom wanted me to have it. I bought a plate stand for it and it's on top of my kitchen hutch.

Nice! That kind of thing is always so memorable.

Re: Kitchen accessories - what do you display that is not typically ""kitchen decor""?

I have several things that qualify for this thread. First, my kitchen table is actually a counter height work table from Pier One. Seats two and has nine cubes facing the room, filled with a small basket, cookbooks and some antiques.Doubles as a peninsula/ prep area. Above the table hangs a vintage brass and crystal chandelier with medallion. Fixture was scored from a garage sale. Perfect size. On the wall above the table is a combined small cabinet with bookshelf above. On either side of that are two pier cabinets turned into built- ins, bought from Ballard Design catalogue. Cabinets are natural cherry, built- ins and table are a sage green (cherry table top). No curtains on the over sink windows. Instead, a perfectly sized faux plaster relief of an urn and branches hangs above the window. Over one of the three doorways hangs a wrought iron square. Many glass pieces made by a local designer, but as they are usable plates and platters, I consider them kitchen items.

Like the OP, I have a light that looks like a candle on a faux wood stand in one of the built-ins. Ambient light for when the kitchen is "off duty".

Goldenlocks - when I googled to see if I could find a picture of the plate online, I was surprised to see it described as vintage. I'm going on 53 and can't remember a time that I didn't see that plate.

Bird mama, I'm sure it's worth a lot being vintage. But, yours is a precious gift from your Mother. Your plate is PRICELESS!

I collect antique toy sewing machines and they are displayed in my kitchen eating area. I have a high narrow shelf on two walls and have 18 different sewing machines on display.

My kitchen walls are lined with bookcases, and most of them hold appliances, cookbooks, coffee mugs, etc. But I also have framed family photos on the top shelf of one of them, alongside the sugar, salt & pepper. They make me smile every time I see them.
