Kitchen accessories - what do you display that is not typically "kitchen decor"?

My kitchen was painted recently and updated a bit. I've been perusing dozens of Pinterest blogs about kitchen decorating. All of them seem to say that you should have something displayed that might not be typically used in the kitchen. On my workspace I have a small table lamp that used to be in my livingroom. It's not good light for cooking, but when the kitchen is "closed" it looks very pretty.

I'd love some new ideas.

What do you use or display in your kitchen that is not typically kitchen decor?

Among the more typical baskets, antique coffee grinder and greenery on top of my kitchen cabinets is an antique railroad lantern. And a wooden chicken.

Love your beautiful kitty on the fridge! You gave me a smile this morning. Our Pepe loved to nap on the fridge. Since she was so determined to be there anyway, I broke down and put a large pillow there so she'd be comfy. That was her napping spot for many years. At 19 years old, though, now her favorite place is nestled in the pillow in a wicker basket in the living room; she can no longer make those leaps. Your picture brought back memories of me opening the fridge door and seeing her head hanging down from the pillow, her meow saying, "Whatcha looking for, Mom?". Thank you. Your kitty is a beauty.

When we remodeled our kitchen, I said that I did not want a lot of cat decor there. Didn't work out so well. We have a gorgeous cat-shaped wine caddy on the counter, a Laurel Burch cat pitcher with large matching mugs (perfect for my morning coffee with a kitty on my lap), and a few glass cutting boards with cats on them (that I don't use for cutting anything). So while those items are actually kitchen decor, they're a few of my favorite kitty things, too. When I posted pictures of our remodeled kitchen on another forum, a friend mentioned that she counted 17 cat-related items in the kitchen.

We do have a vintage Snoopy cookie jar above the one set of cabinets in the kitchen. Snoopy stands guard over our kitchen. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

It's pretty obvious that my love is with my furkids.

Oh PamelaSue, Thank you for sharing your cat story,brought tears to my eyes! So sad when our furbabies can no longer do the things they once did..

I am a Pamela as well, and I have a Snoopy that is 33 years old sitting in my kitchen, it was my Sons when he was born{#emotions_dlg.wub}

I collect Rowe pottery, and while some pieces on the high shelf surrounding the dining area are kitchen related, some are not. They are alternated with small Longaberger baskets, and in the corner, an antique coffee grinder. I also have a couple of Luminara rustic candles with rustic type berry rings, displayed in Longaberger baskets on the counters.
