@Laura14  A few years ago, I tackled this, and it was so fantastic, I made it often, much to DH's delight, only I never made the kind he loves, everything but the kitchen sink, I made potato, clam, mushroom, eggplant, onion, and olive, sometimes pizza with  tomatoes, capers, herbs, and on and on, sometimes with cheese, various types depending on the topping, and sometimes not  When he wants the type he loves, he goes to the pizza parlor, lol.  There is no limit to the toppings.

I did this in my old kitchen, and if you can believe this, since my kitchen was remodeled two years ago with top of the line ovens, I have never been able to make the pizza crust as fantastic as in the old oven, so I have stopped making it as often, but if I can ever get some days with good time in them, I will keep trying in the hopes that I can duplicate exactly.  I always drizzle extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle minced parsley over the top before serving.

Are you totally new to cooking?  You mentioned that you were new at this.

@mousiegirl  Wow!  Yes I am new.  I'm a decent simple cook but I'm starting to try out new things and new skills.  My forte has always been baking and now I'm trying to translate over to the main meals.

I actually have some Tipo flour left from when I tried Italian bread a few weeks ago.  I was going to just do my easy tortilla pizzas but you've inspired me to make my own dough and see what I get.  I have provolone and parm and my own sauce.  I may throw my green pepper that's been begging to have something done with it on there too and maybe some of the vegetables I have left over from the pasta.

Since it's Friday, if I burn down the house or make a mess, I have all weekend to clean it up.  Smiley Happy

@Laura14  I am just the opposite.  I can bake and do a great job, but by the book, no improvising, lol, whereas I make up my own savory recipes, and have gotten ideas through the years from here and there.  I think it is another part of my need to always be creating something, recently discovered this about myself. Re: It's August - Whats Cooking???

Spix, if it was just pork I would say add sweet onions - I use them in anything. While my father the good German (Schumacher) loved sauerkraut, guess who would not go near it - ME!!!. Cannot imagine onion being bad for anything however. LOL. What can I say, never have and never will go near beer either. I am too much a hillbilly I guess.

Here it is almost 6 p.m. and I have not fixed a thing. Well we had fried eggplant last night and I will have a sandwich made from that tonight - others on their own. We do have some frozen stuff but I ain't cooking!!!!!!

Hope one and all had a great day.

Re: It's August - Whats Cooking???

@mousiegirl  I am so excited!!!  My dinner last night inspired by you. Smiley Very Happy   Who would have thought I could make homemade pizza from scratch?  This is my provolone and broccoli parm pizza.  Very good if I do say so myself.

And it sounds like you are doing baking just right.  There is no improvising or "creativity" in baking, unfortunately.  You have to be "by the book" or you get a mess.  It's very precise which is why I find it easy to do.  The only tip I have is getting good at knowing when to pull it out and let it finish cooking in the pan so it doesn't get dry.  You can get creative during the frosting stage.

Perfect example:  Next week my niece has requested a poop cake for her birthday because apparently that is all the rage with the younger set.  I think it comes from the emoticons.  That is going to be adventure next Saturday to make but I think I can pull it off with a bundt cake pan and chocolate frosting.  We'll see.   Smiley Happy

Re: It's August - Whats Cooking???

Good Morning Preds. Still too early for me to even think about dinner tonight. I was still sleepy - unusual as I usually am ready to rock and roll early - and dthe little girl woke up - now that too was a surprise. Changed her, gave her a bottle and hopefully she will sleep another hour - does not sound like it however, LOL. Will be back later

Re: It's August - Whats Cooking???

Dinner almost done - an easy one. In the WOK is diced red skinned potatoes, and will shortly add leftover corn, beans and carrots and collards. Collards already cooked and ready to be put in. In the slow cooker is boneless center cut chops with ONIONS - of course - and dry ranch dressing. Should be a good AND healthy meal.

Very humid here today but not super hot but the humidity makes you sweat.

Good eating to one and all.

Re: It's August - Whats Cooking???

I made my first ever apricot pork stir fry yesterday.  It took me literally about five minutes and it was good.  My dinner again for tonight.

Homemade pizza and healthy stir fry all in one weekend.  I'm beyond impressed with myself.  Just like Michael, I'm bad!      Smiley Tongue
