I bought a CHEAP one years ago from a box store. I think I paid $11 or $12 for it. The only thing I use it for is to blend salsa because I don't care for a chunky one. Mine came with a tall plastic glass that I pour the salsa into and then use my blender.
Just this past weekend, my blade unit fell on the floor and a small part of the plastic piece that covers the blade chipped off. I'm going to try it out before I buy another one.

I have a Ninja immersion blender that came with other pcs I didn't think I would use, but I do. I use this blender at least a couple of times a month. The other one I would buy is the Vitamix item if you thought you were going to use it a lot. One of my dils has a Vitamix and she loves it and uses it often.

I had one for years---got it from HSN and I always used it until just recenty when I lost the stick with the blades.. I have it on my list of things to be replaced---can't remember what brand it was. It had 2 wands, and came with a nut ginder jar and a few tall jars and even a whipping container. Not sure you can actually whip cream with it tho. I looked at some from Cuisinart, Kitchen Aid --they come with different wattages depending on what you want to do with it and also different lengths--- handy thing to have.

i bought a Breville a year ago in the summer thinking it would be handy for making pesto - basil has been a bust in the garden last year and this year...
Coincidence?
i have used it for soup and sauce but found it not smooth enough and used the vitamix - also something i use rarely since i stopped making a breakfast shake daily -
still appreciate the power and what it can do
i'm still glad i purchase an immersion blender
mine had some attachments- whisk and prep bowl

@SilleeMee Thanks for that recommendation! It looks like a great kitchen appliance. My old one is on it's way out. I mostly use it for making ice cream treats for the dog.
It appears the Ninja has rubber on the bottom so would not scratch pots and pans.

Braun is the brand America's Test Kitchen picked in their testing.

Thank you everyone. It is so nice to have so many opinions. Now I have a good idea which brands I will give a closer look.

I 2nd Braun Immersion stick blender as a quality, durable kitchen tool. We have had ours for over 10 years and it is still going strong. 6 settings, nice long cord and easy clean up. We use ours frequently. Mostly on the puree setting and then the mayo setting. Can't go wrong with a Braun imo.

I received an immersion blender years ago and it just sat in my drawer. I pulled it out to give it a try and I haven't put it down! LOVE it!
