@ECBG That's a tough one. I LOVE them both so much! Although, I prefer my pasta salad to be with oil and vinegar (Italian style). I guess it would come down to what protein and other sides were being served, and maybe even the occasion (although I can't even conceive of ever turning one of them down, unless we were outside in 90 degree weather for hours - YIKES!)

I would pick potato salad first, then pasta salad--but not a fan of sweet potato/mac salad----needs to be savory

I differentiate in the "pasta salad" category...growing up, mom always referred to her mac & tuna with mayo salad (that, as I said above, I made my version of yesterday...with a few more ingredients than mom's), as "macaroni salad." Which I still refer to as that today.
"Pasta salads", which I enjoy making all different types of...I think of as more "Italian style" as someone above said...
Like with tri-color rotini pasta, Italian vinaigrette, mixed with all kinds of veggies, peppers, grape tomatoes, broccoli, onions, black olives, celery, carrots, and anything else you like.

I don't remember my mom making pasta salads at all and potato salad once in a blue moon. It was with mustard and a dab of mayo and pickle relish and pimento as I recall, maybe a little onion.
My actual love for a side dish would be a good oil and vinegar slaw, and my favorite being that Pioneer Woman recipe with red cabbage, mango and sriracha. Someone posted on this board and I am crazy about it!
So many good things come from these discussions! ![]()

Potato for me but I love pasta salads, too.

I feel the same way.

It is elbows and shells, sweet & sour dressing, hard boiled eggs, cheddar cheese or colby jack, and what makes it special for me is the crab meat he puts in it.
Wow, that sounds interesting and so different. Can't even imagine what that tastes like with that unusual mix of items...but I take your word for it that you love it!

@ECBG Love that you come up with these simple random questions that spurs such a variety of "food for thought" (no pun) and interesting chats. ![]()
