I got the KitchenAid spiralizer attachment this week and I love it. I've had a suction base apple peeler, corer, slicer for a long time and I bought a Paderno spiralizer awhile back. But I'm glad I went ahead and got the KA attchment version. It's nice to not have to deal with the suction losing it's grip mid process. The KA spiralizer is more stable since it's attached to the machine. It's so well made and the storage box is great as everything has it's own spot. Now I'm planning on buying the additional ribbon and angelhair blades that are exclusive elsewhere.
Last night I spiralized a fat carrot and made a wrap for dinner with hummus, chicken breast, carrot and tomato. I also spiralized a cucumber to make a cucumber salad with rice wine vinegar.

Glad you are pleased with the purchase saw it being presented and the feelings for another gadget crept over me.
I have been wanting Spiralizer and the Paderno is one that seems really nice. Did you use yours alot? Did the veggies taste better cooked and or raw I have to justify the purchase as I could open a mini kitchen store![]()

So far I've only tried butternut squash in a cooked application. And I didn't like the recipe. It was just way too rich. It was a butternut squash noodle in browned butter. I like butternut squash but I roast it diced most of the time. I have used my mandoline to slice zucchini long ways for vegetable lasagna though.
You have to use pretty large carrots to spiralize them, at least 1 1/2 inch diameter and 2 inch would be better. When carrots get that big though they tend to get bitter. It wasn't overly noticable in the wrap I used them in, but I'm thinking I might just grate them instead.
I think I'm going to start using the spiralizer as a quicker way to prep veg and fruit when I want it sliced. Similar to how I used my apple peeler, corer, slicer device and then just cut the apple rings down the middle to make slices for pies. That's what I did with the cucumber yesterday too. I can see using it for prep before dehydrating also.
I didn't use the Paderno a lot because it seemed to lose suction with the counter and then it became a 2 handed operation to crank and hold it down. Or I'd have to stop and get it to suction to the counter again. I don't have to worry about that with the attachment.
Tomorrow my plan is to use the slicing blade of the spiralizer to shred cabbage. Usually I use the mandoline and have to cut it in quarters. I watched a video online on spiralizing a whole cabbage.

Ok so the cabbage. I couldn't do it with the KA spiralizer. I might have been able to if I'd been willing to get the cabbage small enough to fit the size of the blade. To the small core section the blade is only 1 3/4" whereas on my Paderno spiralizer it's 3 1/2".
I ended up using the Paderno spiralizer for the cabbage. There was less waste than using the mandoline but it was more work because it's kind of a pain to keep it suctioned at the same time you need decent pressure to push it into the blade at the same time rotating the handle.
The other drawback is that with the mandoline I control how thick or thin it cuts. I can go down to 1/32" with my mandoline. Both the mandoline and the Paderno are fairly messy with the end product. I always end up using the mandoline over a half sheet pan to catch the food.

I also bought the Spiralizer for my Kitchenaid Mixer. I wrote a review with pictures.
I purchased mine at BB&B for $99 (it was on special by coincidence that week) plus the 20% off coupon.
So the price of this for $89 with free shipping is actually a good deal with QVC and I don't always say this.
One of the negatives if you have a squash that is long, you need to cut it shorter.
If I was able to use it, anyone can. It actually makes eating things fun. Would be great for kids that don't like vegetables.
I am shocked at some of the questions as in Can I cut a roast with this spiralizer?
By the way, if a fruit is wide or has a big circumference, you will not be able to spiralize it. Fruits need to be roundish with regard to the circumference and not that big.

I'm on the fence with this. I have a cheapo OXO hand spiralizer, but it's only big enough to do things like zucchini's and clearly only has one "setting". It works reallyg reat for zucchini and its easy to use. Would you recommend the kitchenaid spiralizer to soneone who already has a hand version? Are there definite benfeits over just using a cheap hand one??

I noticed yesterday that QVC has gotten in the ribbon and angelhair blades for the Kitchenaid spiralizer that were previously only available at Williams Sonoma. Same price too. I ordered them. I'll post back with a review once I get them and give them a try.

It's up to you. I like variety, but I love that I can now do my apples for pies hands free. I'm not much of a pasta eater anyway, so I mostly wanted this for salads and fresh veg.
