Re: I absolutely hate cooking/baking....

Honestly and truly, I'm NOT being rude or mean - but it sounds like you're setting yourself up for failure. You don't want to do it, so you are not putting in the effort to create something good. I can understand that. I sabotage myself in other areas from time to time. Smiley Happy

Cooking and baking are really very much NOT difficult. But, hey, everybody doesn't have to do it. I would imagine that if you had people to feed you would do what it takes to create good food.

But then I actually knew somebody who had a kid, never worked, and never cooked for that kid (or the husband during the time he was there, before he split). Yup, she let him get fast food for every meal. I told her that it would be in his best interests for her to cook some dam food and not have him keep eating fast food 3x a day. She told me that I didn't know what I was talking about. whatever - but I often wonder if he's dead yet.

That's good advice Brii, I'll work on that, one thing at a time. Yes I have people to feed chickenbutt but around here my husband does most of the cooking cause he has better hours for it. Me, not so much. I do try though but mostly I think I stink at it. He's a good cook but he doesn't do many desserts. I'm just glad I wasn't taking that cake to an event or something. {#emotions_dlg.w00t} I di order a cook book from the other night from that ITKWD show, it's from America's Test Kitchen, I hope it helps me. I'm lost if it doesn't.{#emotions_dlg.crying}

Re: I absolutely hate cooking/baking....

You don't have to like it...I was never good at sewing and I tried and tried and am jealous of those that can do it! As for cooking--I like it and am liking it better now that I am investing in better items to get the job done! I never had even a hand mixer!!!!! .I got a Kitchen Aid stand mixer for Christmas, and just made my 1st batch of choc chip cookies--how simple was it to just throw the ingredients in and voila!! I got a Vitamix and that helped enourmously with making soups, smoothies, chopping veggies etc! Now, it's much more fun!!! Also--my daughter had one of those "Pampered Chef" parties--normally I don't like home parties, but I got some great things to help make it more fun also!

Thanks Brii I think the package of dream whip was replacing the oil but beats me, I'm not a cook. And fariemoon, I used a 9x13 pan I bought right here from qvc that came in a set of 3 it was a Lydia Bastianich (sp). Also the frosting stuff wasn't right for the cake, it was goopy and cold and the cake was too tall like a good 3 inches in height and then it just wasn't a good match. yuck.

Where did you find that recipe? It sounds like someone modified something. If you're not familiar with baking or cooking, I would avoid recipes like this (really, I'd avoid anything calling for Cool Whip) and stick to recipes from a cook book while you learn the basics.

If someone modifies something and you try it without knowing the basics, it's hard to troubleshoot. (That goes for far more than just cooking and baking, too!) The Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook is a classic. My mom has had the same copy for 30 or more years, but they revise it with modern recipes, appliances, and health standards in mind. It's easy to follow. You can also check local places for cooking lessons. You and your husband can go together for a date night.

Hey, that's great! If the husband can/wants to cook that's probably a really good match. I wouldn't have mine in the kitchen. I cannot even imagine what 'food' he would come up with. ha! Oh, and the mess - GADZOOKS!

ATK is pretty good. They give a lot of very specific instructions.

I was just talking to my sister about baking. She doesn't make bread, but does make her own pie crusts. I bake everything, EXCEPT pie crusts. Neither one of us likes to make gravy. Like everything else, practice and motivation.

Re: I absolutely hate cooking/baking....

I love both, but especially baking. Last night I made red velvet cupcakes for my mechanic and for a friend, and sugar free whoopie pies for my friend's wife for Valentine's Day. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

I rarely get to cook, though. For me half the pleasure is having people rave about what I've made, and I don't often get to cook for anyone. When it comes to cooking for myself I can't be bothered much.

Re: I absolutely hate cooking/baking....

I have to be in the mood to cook or bake. Being snowbound this week, I made boeuf bourguignon as well as a baked lemon chicken. Today I made a banana yogurt bread. Now I am tired of cooking and baking. The mood will likely not hit me again for a couple of weeks. Fortunately, I froze enough food when I was in the mood to cook to last my husband and me for awhile. I'm retired now but when I was working, I cooked like a demon over the weekends, to be sure there were enough good meals to sustain us during the week. These days, I have to wait until the mood hits. Fortunately it happens a few times a month, so I make sure I freeze enough good stuff to keep us going during the times in between when I don't want to cook or bake.

Re: I absolutely hate cooking/baking....

I despise cooking as well. Absolutely HATE it. Hate going to the grocery store. Hate planning meals. I'd much rather just eat out and get whatever strikes my fancy at the time. However; I do like to eat well and try to eat as healthy as I can, so I do it. Nothing gourmet or fancy, but simple things like grilled protein and sauteed or roasted vegetables. It works for me.

Too bad we don't live next door. You could do my cleaning and I would do your cooking. I also love grocery shopping, if I were younger I'd try to make a business out of it.
