We all came up with the idea of a big no gift summer picnic that we call Christmas.....it has worked out so well for us and more family shows because of the weather it just worked......so we tend to maybe over do a little then but nothing like stuffing till you burst.......lol
Do I like not having family at the holidays? Not really cause there are getting so many that no one has a house that can hold them all and when we are all outside in the summer everyone is happier.....and not scrunched in a little house.....lol
We did that Christmas in July thing when I was a kid. Our whole family vacationed on Martha's Vineyard in July so we'd have Christmas Dinner with all the works. It was the only time when almost everyone was in one place. But it wasn't really Christmas. It wasn't intended to replace Christmas. we all still did Christmas dinenr in our way. It just relieved the pressure of feeling that we had to get together for Christmas and do the the family thing. I like to think that if the time comes when it's just hubby and me and the kids and grandkids are all off doing their own thing.....we'll still have a lovely Christmas with just the two of us. I'll just make a chicken...lol

Our holiday goal is to eat the way we always do, and maintain diabetic control. The family voted on a spiral ham, potato salad, lasagna, a mixed green salad and garlic bread. All those foods are on my tolerated, but not favorite, list. Trucker daughter asked for Dirt Cake, which is easy for me to avoid since I am allergic to milk.

As much as my own prepared food as possible to maitnain my health and weight. If I'm going to indulge, it is on my terms. Exceptions include my trip to Philly, where i will grab some pretels and hopefully a real cheesesteak. Yum.

I treat the holidays like any other time of the year. I weigh myself every day or so. If I've gained weight, I cut back on the next few meals (or even days) and get some extra exercise.
I've learned the hard way that it's no fun to wake up on Jan. 2 and find that I need to lose 10 pounds!

Thanksgiving Day and Christmas are the reasons why I do cardio every single day, so I can treat myself without guilt. Thanksgiving was sooooo good and I did not get hungry until late Friday night I had so much. I will splurge again on Christmas then just have small treats in moderation through out the rest of the year. Back to dreaming of next year while sweating away once again.
But Thanksgiving and Christmas can be scary for anyone sitting next to me.
