I don't know how I missed this topic (one of my favorite subjects), but we LOVE "Dave's Killer" hot dog and hamburger rolls.

They're SO YUMMY they solve the "what to do" problem as sandwich rolls, from PB&J to Shaved sirloin.

@Jk9 Rob Lowe does not get that excited about the buns, but he does demand one each day.

Yes. I buy hot dog buns for a miniature donkey.

And, my husband doesn't let the horse see because he doesn't want Jay to start demanding a bun every day, too.

Welcome to my weird, weird world.

@Dusty1 I lived in that world growing up.  I had a pony that loved boiled eggs.  He would shell them with his tongue and spit out the shell.  How did we discover that?

Kids and Easter eggs I guess.  That I don't really remember.

@Sooner I don't know why my husband fed the donkey a hot dog bun, or why said husband insists it has to be a hot dog bun.

Would the donkey not eat a hamburger bun or a slice of bread? Whatever. It's their thing ! LOL

Sarah Lee's hot dog buns are super soft, they toast up so nice, too.

Re: Hot Dog Buns

[ Edited ]

My husband, who grew up in Georgia around famous Varsity chili dogs, still buys them whenever he happens to be near any Varsity restaurant.  (The Varsity  flagship old drive-in in downtown Atlanta has been named one of the top three tourist attractions in metro Atlanta, believe it or not.)

I fix similar dogs on buns at home with a little Hormel no-beans chili and  a line of mustard on top.  The Varsity cans and sells its own special chili, but Hormel is "close enough".

Of course, the best bun to hold all this gourmet goodness is TOP SPLIT.

Nothing else works as well to hold the chili--or slaw or cheese, either, if you like to add those  common Varsity extras.  When we visit a Varsity, I like the chili-slaw-cheese dog combo myself.  Messy but good.

@Dusty1   This has to be the best!  Made me smile on an otherwise busy, hectic day.  I never had a donkey, but I was once married to a jack *** if that counts.  Woman Wink
