In an earlier thread about saving hamburger buns, some great ideas were shared. So in fairness to the other bun, I thought I would start a thread on hotdog buns.

I do not like the traditional wiener that is used to make hotdogs, so we use German sausage links from Opa's or HEB or the Italian sausage links from Omaha Steaks. I think they are much more interesting than the traditional hot dog wiener.

Another idea is when serving sloppy Joes, use a hotdog bun. No drips like with hamburger buns.

Make French toast out of them, fold them and fill with your favorite toppings.  You can eat them with your hands! ...dip 'em in syrup.

Tuna roll - egg salad...........I don't get the sudden mystery about buns by any name.

Stuff them - toast them ---fry them ----fried fish sandwich -----------------------and the list goes on.

Haven't had one in years, but as I recall, mom used to keep serving buns and wieners until they were gone.  If it took days....

The traditional side split for me.

I have unusual taste, too. No lobster roll for me. If it lived in water, I do not like it. Fish, shellfish, nothing. My son is the same., but my poor husband loves seafood and fresh water catches. He has to dine in a restaurant to get it. I hold my breath when passing the fish counter in the store.

We rarely eat hot dogs but when we do they are the larger frankfurter style and I use a hoagie roll. ( similar to type Costco uses, if you are familiar). I use rolls for other hot sandwiches, like beef dip, hot pastrami, meatball sub, etc. I heat the roll up prior to filling with whatever meat I am using. Also have used for garlic bread.

@candys mine  New England top split definitely. You can set it down and it stays straight with no hot dog falling out. That’s all I ever buy.

I also use the larger all beef hot dogs.  I don't need the calories in the other hot dog buns.  Give me a salad.Smiley Happy

Peanut butter and banana sandwich on a leftover hotdog bun.  I don't eat bananas anymore, but I have done this in the past.
