I always use 85/15. 93/7 is dry and 80/20 has to much fat. I discovered the difference when I was about 16. My mom was away for a week and my dad took my sister and I grocery shopping. We got the 80/20 ground beef to make hamburgers and nobody liked it. It also had little bits of skin and some bone in it. Not a lot but enough that I found some. To this day if I find that, I cannot eat it...yuck! When mom came home we asked her about it and she explained the difference. I've used 85/15 ever since!

There is no such cut of beef labeled ground beef.

“Ground beef” is made of different parts of a cow or cows.  Basically it is butchers leftover mystery beef meat, unless you grind yourself a specific part of the cow.

I don’t eat pre -made ground beef because I don’t know what it is made of.  And also a greater chance of  E Coli from a sick cow(s) mixed in.

@Hung

Why are you picking on me? I guess I  should have said ground chuck(?) Excuse  me but most people I know say ground beef and so do most recipes. I'm  not an idiot and don't appreciate  the implication or attitude! Please don't  bother replying to my posts anymore.

@Fiero Woman

 @starpolisher  Don't worry, when you post on these forums you are open to attack as I was on the Rachael Ray Forum, when I posted an apology as I was talking about things I had read.  I got to thiking and decided to apologize as I was only going by what the press states.  After that, I got slammed.

@Fiero Woman

 Thank you! I know. I've been on these boards since the beginning and  frankly I'm  tired of the nonsense. It was nice of you to apologize. I have no intentions of doing so. I try to play nice, use just the right words and still, trouble! Well, l for one, will be talking back..at least today! I get tired of biting my tongue.😬 It's just ridiculous!

Why so bitter and full of hate?

So what cut of beef is ground beef?

Don’t bother replying.

@EatWell

The words "ground beef" were used at least four times before my first post. Yet you target me to correct! If you just wanted to make a general statement to clarify the difference fine. But you addressed me and only me. That's why!!!

You'd think a "Ground Chuck!" thread would be safe to just read, but no.

Too scary.
