Re: Egg Prices!

[ Edited ]

Yeah!! Well, $2.39 at Aldi for a dozen Goldhen ones--if I make that extra trip to Aldi--and then from there, at my local supermarker, it's $3.77 for offbrand large-shell, which is the cheapest-- they go up in price after that, depending on quantity & name-brand (e.g. Eggland's Best). I usually just buy a 6-egg pack, but that still costs me $2.77. Smiley Indifferent. I'm in Missouri, by the way.

My store recently had a dz large for $1.49. As I went over to get some, I saw a woman walk by with 6 cartons. I wondered why so many until I saw the price. I also had a coupon for a free dz, so got 24 eggs for $1.49.

Now I saw my last trip pallets of eggs, white and brown, sitting in the dairy section, just delivered maybe? I checked online to see if the price was publicly lowered but no, still said $3.79. I'm hoping when I go for my Christmas shopping to find another surprise lol.

Why is this about eggs?  For goodness sakes, I buy two cartons of organic eggs when I shop, and my bill has almost doubled recently.  It's sure not the 2 cartons of eggs that is doing that!

Groceries have gone sky high!  Eggs are the least of my worries there.

Re: Egg Prices!

Some of the price increase in eggs is due to avian flu. Some chickens had to be destroyed so there's a shortage of eggs. Supply and demand.

Other factors...

Higher fuel, packaging, labor, and feed costs.

One company owns 1/5 of supply.

Popularity of keto diets which encourage egg consumption.

We have our own chickens.  Can't eat store bought from caged chickens  anymore.

@wilma  Today, I read that 3.8 million chickens have died from

the avian flu. There was a reprieve from the illness and

I saw egg prices go down for a couple of months, but the

flu  returned and created the shortage of eggs that we are

experiencing now. Just in time for holiday baking. Smiley Sad

I pay 5.29 for 18 Egg Lands Best.  Still a reasonable price for the source of protein.  I did get store brand butter this week for 2.99.  Land o Lakes was on sale for 3.99.  I bought enough to get through the holidays.
