Re: Do You Cook In An Apiron?

I have a cool Kansas City Chiefs apron that I wear only when I fry things which is rare.  Grease splatters are hard to get out!

I love pretty aprons.  I always wear one when I have good clothes on, such as cooking for Thanksgiving dinner.

@ECBG

What a sweet thread=so many memories!  The first thing I learned to sew in home ec was a half apron!  I remember my DM wearing them and I have some of my mother in law's.   I don't wear them but feel I need to make and wear a full apron!  I believe Walmart sells Pioneer Woman full aprons.    I did purchase the ITKWD apron for DH as his name is David!   Thanks for starting this thread and walk down memory lane!

@mustang66lady,I loved my high school class in that area too.  I went to college to majoer in that area because the Interior Design unit spoke to me.  Today, it's called Family and Consumer Science.  All the classes have been a concentrated into a senester instead iof a class with mixed units,  and all courses prepare students for careers.  I had the highest ID classes in the state for 10 years and also wrote curriculum for teachers.

I never did aprions.  We did something that they were excited to do.

@ECBG

Well the class that taught me to sew half aprons was in Jr. High which should give you an idea of how old I am since Jr. High is now called Middle School!

I can understand aprons were not an exciting unit to teach or study but I will appreciate you starting this thread..  What a wonderful life you have lead.   Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

I try to remember to wear an apiron when I cook instead of DH grilling.  I've found grease marks from standing at the range sauteeing vegetables if they weren't grilled.  I know Dawn (blue) will often take that out, I just prefer to be proactive.

@ECBG  I wish I could find an apron that I like, and that fit me as I prefer. I am plus size, and some aprons fit adequately, but not to my liking enough.  Plus, I am very picky about what it's made of and how it's cut.  I prefer a longer, full apron, like those used in restaurants.  However, I haven't been able to find a "good" one in the regular retail market as of yet.  I presently don't own any aprons.  I'd sew one up, if I could even find a suitable pattern. Maybe I could find a used one at a thrift store, and then just wing it.  I really should wear one, as I do cook often, and sometimes, do rather make a mess.  ;-)

Google restaurant grade aprons or professional aprons.

Re: Do You Cook In An Apiron?

I hate things around my neck or tied around my waist, so I don't wear aprons. I wear a wildly patterned caftan over my clothes that doesn't show grease marks or much of anything. This particular caftan style is short and cut with arms and doesn't flow, so there's no excess fabric to pose a fire hazard. In summer, I switch to cheap popover shifts. Any splatters, I just put on a fresh one. I keep a stack in the kitchen for just that purpose.

@Ruthie-Roo, would this this apron pattern from Martha Stewart work for you? http://www.marthastewart.com/269923/chefs-apron
