Re: Another reason I ❤ my Lock and Lock...

The reports  of pitting and spots in LL are very puzzling.  Checked mine to see if they  had something I hadn't noticed before, and don't think so.  Some of mine are old, get used a lot and  have been through the dishwasher about a hundred times.  We do not have very soft water in our area, and mineral  deposits do build up on certain things.

I can't see any  pitting or scratches, just some water spots, even though Rinse-Aid in the Bosch dishwasher will  supposedly prevent this.  Rinse-Aid works great for turning out  sparkling glass and dishware, but doesn't seem to help plastic.

If hard water is damaging your LL, do you find that you must take more than the average amounts of filtration steps to prevent hard water damage in your coffeemakers?

Re: Another reason I ❤ my Lock and Lock...

@novamc1, I think it is a combo of very hard water and my Bosch DW...the ones I hand wash only ( which I started to do after so many ended up  like this) don't get it, and it's the same hard water..

as as for coffee, I only drink a Nespresso, which is about 2 oz, and use bottled water in it..Hadnt even considered it...don't drink it daily, so it's easy to use bottled for that..but thanks for the warning..

I even squeegie my shower door after every shower, or I wouldn't be able to see out of it!

Re: Another reason I ❤ my Lock and Lock...

the ones I use in the microwave are cloudy and pitted (some are even blistered looking). the larger ones that I have never put in the micro are like new.  I don't have a dishwasher so I know it's the microwave doing it but I'm okay with that and I will keep doing it rather than transfer to yet another dish for heating.

Hey!! How'd you get a picture of my L&L??  LOL!!  those are exactly how mine look but now that you mention it, it is the bowls and the stackables that look like that and not the squares --- how strange is THAT??

Re: Another reason I ❤ my Lock and Lock...

@In-x-s  maybe it is because we rarely reheat in squares? or use them less? Some of my older ones are not so great, but NOTHING like the bowls...

I mean, obviously it doesnt hurt their functionality, but I wouldnt take them to the "church social"!
