There's a darling little lady on you tube, "Me Me's Kitchen"  that shows how to do basic foods.  Today she did Ambrosia.  I wondered how many families served ambrosia.  We did not.

@ECBG - My mom made it once in a while, but not very often. I've had it out, but I don't think I've ever made it!  Smiley Happy

@SharkE

It's an easy fruit salad. Here's one recipe:

  • 1 can (15 ounces) mandarin oranges, drained
  • 1 can (8 ounces) pineapple tidbits, drained
  • 1 cup miniature marshmallows
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup sour cream

In a large bowl, combine the oranges, pineapple, marshmallows, and coconut. Add sour cream and toss. Cover and refrigerate several hours.

@SharkE : My Mom used  only  oranges, coconut and some sugar. She would peel  the orange and remove the white stuff ( can't remember the correct name - now)and section the orange and cut in smaller pieces. She would squeeze all the juice out. Then add coconut. If the oranges were really sweet and juicy - no sugar added. Her original recipe included a small can of crushed pineapple drained and adding chopped pecans but we preferred just the orange and coconut.

This is how I make it, except I also add Maraschino cherries.🍒

My mom never made it. The first time I had it was at a party. I was about 30 years old. I've loved it ever since. It's one of my very favorite desserts! I rarely make it because no one in my family likes it except me and I'll eat the whole thing!😂

I watch "Me-Me" on Facebook. I love her recipes also!

My girlfriend's mom made this when we were younger.  I just called it Hawaiian Fruit Salad until my older sister corrected me and said it was Ambrosia.  Ooh, that sounded so fancy.  It became one of my go-to's when I was a young wife. I had a few - Ambrosia, Taffy Apple Salad, Watergate Salad, and Cherry Fluff.  Strawberry Pretzel Jello was added some years later.

Remember the Sissy Spacek character asking for some ambrosia at one of the ladies lunches in The Help?

@JeanLouiseFinch

Loved the movie - The Help - especially 'Minny's Chocolate Pie' and Sissy Spacek laughing when she found out the ingredients after Hilly kept eating mouthfuls!

Btw:  I love ambrosia, never made it myself but have had some made by others.
