I don't think there is a big market for silver jewelry, chains and things, now. I don't think it is something the majority of shoppers are looking for. I haven't bought a silver chain in 10 years I don't think.
Also, I think people who are buying jewelry are buying more expensive items and being more selective about it because of prices. We used to buy silver as an impulse item, but I don't see people wearing it so much any more.
Look around and everyone but me has statement necklaces. . .That's about all I see. And pearls. Pearls never go out of style the classics, but I don't think there is the Honora novelty pearl market there used to be either.
I think it depends on a person's lifestyle. I have never been a "statement piece" person, and now that I'm retired I'm buying more jewelry - simple, understated, basic jewelry - than I did while I was working and going out a lot. I have never been attracted to pearls.
I would like to have some gold, but honestly, with the lifestyle I live it would be spending a lot of money for things I might wear only a few times a year if that. Silver I can wear every day.
But I don't care to over-pay for QVC's idea of "designer" jewelry, silver or otherwise. I prefer hand crafted, one-or-few-of-a-kind pieces that are fairly priced for workmanship and amount of silver.
I think many people are buying silver because they can't afford gold. I would much rather buy silver than waste-of-money Bronzo-type jewelry. At least Sterling is Sterling, like karat gold, not "mystery metal."
