@fitfuninformed. The best place to purchase loose stones is at a gem show. Google to see when & where they will be in your area. If purchasing small stones (tiny for accent stones in jewelry), you can check Rio Catalogue whole from Albuquerque NM...where I purchase my small stones & gemstone beads that I can't find at a show Google for online catalog).
Any gem stone larger than 1/4 Ct. will show visible inclusions if set in ring....necklace or earrings people tend not to get that close to see flaws.
If necessary, a reputable jeweler may be able to direct you to a local individual who deals w/ gems. I've gone that route, too...especially when looking for something out of the ordinary or over 2 Cts.

Intergem is a gem and jewelry wonderland. they have a separate area for just gems strung of cords. briolettes and other cuts. there may be one coming to your area soon.
