Mine were purchased from Sunburst Shutters, don't know if they're nationwide. I live in the desert southwest and mine are Polywood which withstand extreme heat and sun. I've had them for 15 years and they look as good as the day they were installed. I put them on every window in the house except some that were small and higher up and I left those windows uncovered but put sunscreens on the outside. The shutters were expensive but they'll be here after I"m gone. I think they were approx. 7K for all the windows back then. I have 4 inch shutters which helped us retain our view of the mountains better than the narrower ones would have.

They sound very nice Tyak! I was afraid they are expensive but I will see if I can get a good deal. Thanks for your reply!

When we moved to Florida 6 years ago we put plantation shutters on every window in the house partly for sun control and partly because the Florida sun ruins curtains so fast. I looked in the phone book and called a few companies for estimates. We finally went with a company called Shutters, blinds and designs. We ended up buying a composite material that is what they make football helmets from because the saleslady told us wood would eventually need painted (we wanted white) and they do turn yellow from the sum if you buy painted white. The material we bought is white all the way through so it will never need painted and is more durable than wood, and does not ever turn yellow. So far we are very happy with our choice to do this. Some of our neighbors had custom curtains made and are already replacing them because the sun in Fl. is brutal on drapes. Also I don't have to get shutter dry cleaned like drapes. I just vacuum them with the dusting attachment on my sweeper.

Soon after we had our shutters installed the man who does the tax assessment came and one of the things he wrote down was the shutters on all windows. My DH asked him why and he said having shutters raises the value of the home.

@beautywithin wrote:I am even more convinced I want them from hearing how a lot of you love them! The only problem is I heard they can be expensive, like $500 a window? My windows are like 48" x 49". I know I would get the faux wood one.
I have 2 windows right together in my master and my dining room that got a double shutter on them and then 2 single windows in the other 2 bedrooms that got a single width shutter. They cost us $2500. Not much at all when you consider they will last us the rest of our lives.

Thanks for your reply. I know I will have to pay a pretty penny to get what I want, but I know in the long run it will be worth it. I will just have to save for a while.

It does not cost very much to join Costco for a year so the membership price might be worth it. It was for my daughter.

Thanks Jewel3 I will look into that and it could be a good option especially if I can get a good deal!

I called Hunter Douglas and had a rep come to the house to educate me on all the choices, which vary in cost...either way, an expensive investment but well worth the money.

Our friends had Sunburst Shutters put in their home -- we live in the Las Vegas area. I think these are franchisees and the company is nationwide. Yes, they are expensive, but I think worth it.
