Or,  UN-decorating, as the case may be.  I love when our Home forum posters discuss what they do after Christmas.

It's my impression that a lot of people just remove Christmas decorations, enjoying the clean, calm feeling after all the holiday whimsy.

Some emphasize creams and whites, and natural greens-- maybe removing the brighter colors, etc.

The DesignThusiasm blogger, Lory Bernstein, says that she likes pastel, icy colors like lavender and blue, after Christmas, mixed with whites, silvers, and fresh flowers--

I think her choice of lavender and lilac is so refreshing!  Mixing evergreen sprigs and flowers, nice.    A few silver and white ornaments can stay out...

She said she likes smoky crystal this time of year--

She keeps her glass trees out through the winter--

I have just a few pieces of old silverplate, but also like to see mine in the winter too.

And candles, a no-brainer, of course.

Can't get enough of color discussions right now, ha.  Or "cullah",  as Lauren Bacall used to intone in her High Point coffee commercials....

Anyway, everyone's different.  Some don't want to even think about decor, some like to switch things up, etc. etc.

I'm not so different from Lory--   usually subtract the reds, keep my evergreens, downplay color in favor of off-whites and I love the combination of woven things like baskets, with old, tarnishing silverplate, and my clear pressed glass ( to hold candles, usually).   Additionally, I like the warmth of wood in winter.

I like Lory's icy pastel looks she achieved!   And of course, I'd love fresh flowers too, but don't spring for them very often...

What do you like to do, if anything?

@Oznell

Those colors are just dreamy and absolutely yummy....

I love everything about them. Light, bright and refreshing while still retaining some winter vibes. It gives off just the type of feeling I want this time of year. I want to get rid of the excess and bring in more lightness and brightness while still feeling cozy and wintery. So lovely!

As for me, although I don't go overboard decorating for Christmas per say,  I do decorate a lot ...I have up trees and garlands and more incorporated simple decorations, I do like to edit and take out the more christmasy things...trees and garland, nutcrackers, etc and just keep out the more wintery stuff.

I like the idea of bringing in an icy pastel like the pictures you posted to fill in the void left...hmmmm ....thanks for the inspiration! Smiley Happy

Icy pastels are beautiful, but not something I'd use in our home. With beige, brown and some burgundy accents, it wouldn't look right. Next week, I'll remove the Christmas decorations - the snowman stuff will stay out for all of January.

Big YES to clean, calm feeling; I'm not a fan of "decor".

Re: WINTER DECORATING

[ Edited ]

I like what she's put together and the color scheme and elements are nice for winter but it almost reminds me of a girls bedroom or wedding reception motif.

Anyway, 'winter' is not one of my decor themes so would not be going this direction. I also don't have white furniture, which to me, is how the lavendar/lilac/silver is able to work.

Nice to look at though so thanks for posting.

I had to smile because I fit right in to what seems to be the trend after Christmas. I don't do a lot of decor in my smaller town home, but I put away the reds and greens and pulled out a few crystal pieces , silver pieces and my Blenko blue penguin. Gone are a couple of Holiday sofa pillows and my calm blue and off-white decor pillows are back in place. Little things make a big difference and brings back a sense of calm for me. Thanks as always for your post @Oznell. I always enjoy them.

Love the rooms. I need some glass trees!
