I'm "guilty" of numbers 1, 3, 4 and 7.   (Number 1 refers to my basement, not LR)

If you live in a house long enough, everything old becomes new again.

That's true with clothes/styles, you name it.

I've lived in this house for 42 years.  It's had tweaks here and there and that's good enough for me.

I had lightning hit it and most of the house was totally 'redone'  That was 14 years ago.

I'm good...good enough for me.

@SoX

Popcorn ceilings ALL THROUGHOUT the house, but because of my asthma/allergies, I don't see myself scraping them in this lifetime.

I think it's interesting that the article shows really nice examples of all the "no nos"! In most writeups like this one, they depict old, dingy, unattractive pieces and rooms to prove their point, but here, some of the things seem quite charming—for example, the paneling is high quality, the blue-checkered countertop made me smile (at least until I contemplated what a pain it would be to maintain and keep clean), and the pine furniture is pretty nice as well.

I have popcorn ceilings, lots of carpet and laminate countertops...oh well. I'm too old now to do anything about it and live long enough to enjoy it if I did.

Two fails:

1. Guilty of popcorn ceilings, but not about to have them removed at this point in my life. So much has been redone to this home over the years. That will be for the next owner!

2. Have to admit I do love my custom draperies in the living room and my bedroom. The next homeowner will redecorate before moving in anyway. We did with each move, as well as periodic updating throughout the house.

@BirkiLady

I forgot about my custom draperies in the LR/DR  ... not about to replace these, either ... or my beige walls.   They're the perfect canvas for whatever I want to bring in or change.

@SoX  My walls are ivory!  Thirty years ago, we considered beige walls, but we enjoyed collecting original artwork. It always works on an ivory wall.

I still cannot get used to the grey/brown/greige look in today's homes. (It does nothing for complexions like some of the pinkish beiges! LOL)  Seriously, I'm afraid it would become depressing, especially during the shorter days of the year.

I too like pine furniture and I’m not parting with mine.

Also, the Property brothers recommend ( eye roll) getting rid of any yellow or red painted walls because they would be off putting to potential buyers.

I told my listing agent I would paint over my red accent wall, but she said it was nicely done and to not paint . My house sold the first day on the market and I had multiple offers.
