I have noticed the vinyl planks in our church show some indentations where the kneeler's legs come down.  Flooring only about 5 years old.  I believe level of quality has a lot to do with wear.

Thank you for your thoughtful input.  I have grandkids and they enjoy laying on carpet.  Traffic in family room is extensive as it ties kitchen to other parts of house and outdoors.  No dog but I might get one in couple if years.  We used to have golden and entry hall wood shows some scratches even though we usually had covered.

The concern with door trim height is with going from carpet to LV.  I guess its thinner than real wood.

I agree that carpet easier on feet and legs.  Over past few years I find I always need to have my Vionic slippers on.  I love barefoot in summer but comfort suffers.

I have put this off for years .  The carpet I have has done its duty.  I do like the LV in MT kitchen.  Its wide planks that was installed with grout to look like tile.  I do like ease of cleaming.  Feel under foot is good but surface not smooth.

From what I understand carpet and real wood are close in thickness and no alterations to door frames necessary.  If I choose LV it is thinner and frames would need to be filled at bottom or frames dropped.  I like benefits of LV and looks have improved considerably but.....   🙁

@NYCLatinaMe There are many companies that make vinyl floor mats.  Mine are from Mackenzie-Childs and Spicher & Company.  You can get gel mats for areas you stand at a long time such as the sink or stove, but I don't have one of those.  I like the mats because I'm constantly washing my hands and vegetables and heading straight to the stove without properly drying.  The mat protects my hardwords underneath from all the water drips.

@Lucky Charm  yes it is tile. Long strips like wood.  It hardly shows dirt with all the colors.  The store told me, I think, its something either the Italians made or invented where they put images on the tile that are very realistic.

@Sunshine Kate , I was in a hotel that had vinyl flooring last week.  I found it cold on the feet.  I had never thought about that. I live in a four season climate.   I would prefer wood which I have but would take vinyl over carpet any day.
