I agree with the poster about trying to get rid of a piano. I had a very old upright that I just didn't want anymore. It hadn't been played in over 15+ years and needed work to get going again even if I wanted to keep it (I didn't). Tried selling....nothing! Tried posting for free...nothing! Tried contacting places I thought might want it...nothing! I even went to a local piano store that's been in business for about a hundred years!! They told me that people only want to buy 'new' or true antiques worth mutliple tens of thousands of dollars if not more. They don't even take 'old' pianos because they have to trash them and than have to pay for that.
I ended up removing the keys because I have a craft business and thought I might be able to do something with them at some point. I called a trash hauler to remove it which I had to pay for. It weighed a TON and I wouldn't have been able to move it OR transport it anyway as it was to big to fit even in a truck if I had it & still would have cost me. They had 4 guys come in & out it went! Well worth what I paid just to get rid of it.
If any of this offends you, I'm sorry, but it's my home and I'm not keeping something I have no use for and don't want! I had it a long time and tried for about 4 months to find a home for it. I think that's MORE than enough!
Bottom line, I think this is FABULOUS! If I had really been attached to my piano, it would have been a nice alternative to repurpose if no one in the family played. I see no harm done! It was kept out of a landfill and remained a treasure that could be enjoyed by whoever did this. Win win!!

How about old sheet music lining the shelves?
@lolakimono Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh........THAT IS A TERRIFIC IDEA!

That would be REALLY cool!!
BTW, old piano stools make a great side table with bonus storage! I did keep our piano bench (see above for what happened to the piano!) for that very reason. And have acquired 2 others I use for benches. All probably 100 years old or so. I didn't even paint or alter their appearance. I like the aged worn look of my benches/now tables.

So unique and clever, definitely preferable to failure to use or keep a piano in a musical way.

When I first opened this thread and saw it, my initial reaction was never would I do this. As a piano player, I don't think I could repurpose mine like this. I know pianos are expensive to maintain though. I'd probably try to donate a piano before repurposing. I guess repurposing it is better than it just sitting there not being used, or repaired, or getting thrown out.
