If your room was basically square, say 14x 14 - and you were putting a medium size baby grand piano in it - would you put the piano on a 'round' rug in the room or follow the layout of the room/square and put the piano on that shape?

@sarahpanda My room is rectangle. I have an ebony baby grand more towards the one end. I chose a Royal Palace 5 x 7 rectangle only to accommodate the piano and my artist's bench. Everything sits on the rug.
(My harp is close to the piano, but rests on the hardwood floor.)
But I see your decorator's point by smoothing out the lines in a square room.
You could make an overhead layout of your room on graf paper w/ mock furniture pieces, your piano and different rug shapes, and see what you like best.
For myself, I like sharper angles. The piano itself smoothes out the sharp angles of the rug.
Again, for myself, I would want the rug large enough so that the piano and also the bench sits fully on the rug.

I would put the piano off to the side and create a conversation area elsewhere in the room. Put the rug in the middle of the conversaton area; use whatever shape works.

I'd go with round or any shape except square if it was me. Too much of one shape can drag down a room.
Go with what you like.

I would choose a round rug, perhaps oval to add depth and visual interest to the room.

I would do one of two things: If I specifically wanted a rug under the piano I'd get the round and and place the piano and bench on it. If I wanted additional furniture in the room, I'd get a rug room size rug in the appropriate shape (square, in your case) and position the furniture and piano as you desire. If you go with the round under the piano be sure to get it large enough that the bench doesn't get hung up on it when you move it.

I would do an oval shape!

I've never owned a baby grand piano but it sounds lovely! 14x14 is a nice size room, for me I think I would do an oval rug large enough for the piano and bench to fit nicely with a bit of space around it. A nice Royal Palace would be perfect!
@Harpa I just love the sound of a harp!!

@LindaSal Thank you for your suggestion, along with the input of the others ! Sometimes it helps to see things through 'other's eyes'. ...and yes, I love my piano. I'm not the best pianist there is, by far - but I find that when I need ''calming down'', it's my go to !!

@LindaSal Me, too! I am still so enamored with this instrument! It lends such warmth and depth to instrumental music!
@sarahpanda Not sure where you live, but one of the best things I ever got was the Piano Life Saver system that maintains humidity for the instrument. I tune twice a year, but the humidity control really makes a huge difference. The really funny thing is that even the harp stays in tune, kind of by osmosis. But primarily, it keeps the piano healthy.
