@sarahpanda @I wasn't sure how things would look so I google baby grand on a round rug and then looked in Google Images. There are photos of grands on round rugs, square rugs, regtangular rugs and bare floors. There are photos with other rugs used under the furniture and under the piano. Take a look so you can see for yourself. You can also try searching for baby grand piano under rugs in Google Images. One thing that really stood out to me is when the rug is not big enough. It should extend from under the piano enough to look balanced. You can see this when comparing the photos.

@Mindy D     Thank you  SO MUCH for your tips !!  The pics online were invaluable !  I'd be leaning towards a round rug  under the piano - now it's a definite 'no 'to that !  So glad you helped me decide with the photos before I made the wrong rug purchase !
