Although we have been going to stores and restaurants (safely) throughout this ordeal, we have not had a family gathering at our home or our family's homes since December of 2019.  My husband and I are usually the ones to host many of the major holidays in our family (Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, 4th of July).  We have two young daughters and the fact that we host family gatherings so often has always been what they have looked forward to most.  It has been very difficult on them for over a year now because they haven't been able to spend any true quality time with other family members.  My husband and I have been able to  keep their spirits up in other special ways, but it wasn't the same without our family members.

With the exception of my children, all of our family members are now fully vaccinated.  We have decided to start getting together again in small groups, since the CDC is saying it is okay.  I am having my husband's family here tomorrow for my younger daughter's birthday.  It will be 6 adults and 2 toddlers and my girls.  All vaccinated.

I am seeing my parents on Easter for Brunch at their house on Sunday. All vaccinated.

I am hosting Mother's Day with both sides of our family.  That will be the first time we are all getting together in over a year and we will all be fully vaccinated.

We also plan on hosting 4th of July this year with some extended family members who have received their vaccinations.  We usually have about 75 people here for the holiday, but we are not doing that this year.  We are keeping it to only family members who have been vaccinated.  It will probably be around 25 of us and we will be outdoors the majority of the time.

I understand being cautious, even with vaccinations.  However, I feel confident that my family and I can now start to safely see one another since we have all been vaccinated.  Why bother getting vaccinated if we can't start at least having some kind of "normalcy" in our lives?

I don't think a person is right or wrong for their decision.  Everyone has their own level of comfort right now and it must be respected.  We all must do what we feel is best for ourselves and our family members.

@Grade1Teach

This is such a wonderful post to read! People who are finding their way back to 'normal'.

I hope all your events come together and by the second or third ones, it feels like you never missed a beat!

And I agree with the idea that if everyone is vaccinated, and waited the time for the antibodies to build, there should be NO reason they not gather again, based on what we have been told from the beginning of the vaccine trials. Enjoy getting back to life!

@stevieb, I understand and respect your position.  There are some threads I have no interest in myself for various reasons.

But I do think you are an intelligent person who can leave a thread when you can see what direction it is going in.  To some of us, obviously me, this is a critical matter.  And with rapidly changing facts.  When this virus infects people - and the non-vaccinated are prime targets - it mutates.  And it gets much stronger and much more dangerous.

Believe it or not, I have many other interests.  But along with some others, trying to convince and educate people is a focus.

I sincerely wish you well and appreciate all you add to many discussions.

@PamfromCT  A sincere thank you for your kind words. Just a few points, first, I did leave the discussion as soon as I saw where it was going. I didn't read most of the posts, but, for better or worse, did opt to share my point of view, not as a criticism, but really, just as a point of view. There are so many avenues for similar discussions on the QVC forums, which are often so severely proscribed in other areas, so I guess I had simply hoped the Home forum would be a bit more 'sacrosanct', for want of a better word... Regardless, it's frightening out there, I understand that as well as anyone and better than some, and so am wishing everyone stay safe...

For the record and in response to the thread's inquiry, among the very last things on my eventual return to 'normal' are concerns about entertaining or hosting gatherings...

It was obvious from the first sentence in the post, what the possibilities might be, so I don't see the complaint. There wasn't a reason to keep scrolling through if there is a real issue with the subject.

But I put it here, because the post/questions are based on home. It's based on holidays, entertaining, gathering with family and friends. We often talk here about those things for various holidays/seasons/events, and most people have been foregoing those for a year now. So discussing who is ready, who is going to resume, who is not, who has lost interest in doing certain things around the home events really is a legit topic for the forum.

This forum used to be about much more than just posted pics from online with people weighing in on liking or not liking the style/colors/etc. It needs other things infused now and then, including how people intend to use their homes as times change in the next few months/year.

@Mominohio  Since your post, above, is pretty clearly directed at me, let me at least 'officially' direct my comments here to you. The title of your thread ended with the words 'now that'... As noted above in my response to another poster, once I opened the thread and discerned definitively the direction it was going, I did indeed opt out, but decided, as is my right, to voice my opinion. Clearly, the 'home' and 'holiday' forums can go in whatever direction users want them to go and, as has always been the case, users are then free to join in and to voice their opinions, which I believe I have done. Respectfully, if you don't 'get' the 'complaint' perhaps that's by choice, but regardless, I don't expect my perspective to guide forum content. Personally, I'm not as convinced as are some that we're seeing the end of the lockdowns. I suspect this situation is going to ebb and flow for some time to come. Stay safe and enjoy whatever gatherings or entertaining you opt to do. I'm in no hurry.

In my opinion it is unsafe to leave the house let alone gather.  Per conversations with my doctor I will continue ordering goods and services online until the Virus is erradicated.  I get the mail but have not left the house in 12 months.

@Reever

Perhaps it is implied in your comment, and  I"m not assuming to know your specific circumstances, but people really need to include "for me" or "for my family" about something as encompassing as 'unsafe to leave the house, let alone gather'.

It might be for you, it might be for my mom on some level, it certainly is for some people, but really, it is not unsafe to leave your home, (for 99% of the population) and the fact that so many have been convinced that it is, is somewhere between sad and ridiculous.

It is perfectly safe for almost anyone to do some things. Go outdoors, drive alone in your car, be in your own yard, your own porch, your own patio. It's safe to walk down the street or road especially if you live somewhere that there are few or no other people walking, or with a mask if there are people spaced out. It is safe to go to state parks and get outside and distance from others. It is safe to walk along a beach where people are distanced (not so much south Florida right now).

I get that some people live in very large cities, literally piled on top of each other, and have to breathe other's air just to step into the hallway of their apartment/condo. But I have to wonder if some people understand how many people have gone out every day to work, and been exposed to the public by the hundreds or thousands each day, in grocery stores, big box stores, shipping hubs, factories, fast food restaurants, etc. Many millions have never been sick, many more millions have had the virus and never needed medical attention for it.

Again, my comment is not about you and your specific situation, but the way you word it, I see over and over again, and know that so many people believe this to be the case/situation for everyone, everywhere. It simply is not, and was not, even in the worst of times during this pandemic.

The level of fear, this far into the event, is irrational for so many (and again, not for everyone, some are indeed at extreme risk).

This is a very interesting topic as I'm vaccinated (for spouse on suggestion from his pulmonary specialist) and he can't get it due to health reasons.

Which brings me to a "crossroads" in my life.  I have not traveled, gone many places and my "free spirit" attitude has virtually "disappeared" -- not sure why but I'm hesitant to do normal things (it's pretty crazy I've discussed with my doctor obviously many are feeling the same😮).

As for entertaining I just don't have the "excitement" of wanting to do gatherings, prep & more.  I've enjoyed having my 4 card friends 1x/month on my turn and it's perfect.

As for family I miss the everyday moments I enjoyed when I travelled home every 6-8 weeks but now I'm satisfied with seeing them on Skype everyday.  I am supposed to go home for 2 weeks for gd 8th bday but even this I'm not sure.

I know I've changed a lot and finding that "right time" to go back to my life as I knew it maybe harder than I thought.

@homedecor1

You are one of the people foremost in my mind as I posted this thread. I recall how often you traveld back home, enjoying your family, and how you liked to entertain at home as well. I wondered how those of you who were the 'goers and doers' were feeling these days.

I hear you about the disappearance of the desire to go and do and be back out to the normal. I'm not afraid, I'm just not interested. I know that for myself (and I think human kind in general), I am adaptable, even if I don't really like change. Once a change has been made in my life, I tend to come on line with it and move on with the 'new normal' (sorry for those that hate the term). This has been the same. I've gotten used to so many changes in the going and doing, and I honestly don't miss it, don't long for it, don't pine for the day I can do 'it' again (whatever those things might be). I've found other ways/things to occupy my time.

I'm more focused on being able to get all the people in my immediate family back into one place, at one time, and not have to worry about the oldest and most fragile. The rest of it will most likely just come back slowly over they next couple of years, if at all.

@Mominohio

thank you for thinking of me!  I think often of you and how you are doing ... nice to see you are posting.  Sure miss your beautiful decor pictures, I have done little decorating another sign of the times -- life changes.

I have "adapted" to my new life style.  I'm really not interested in big gatherings, hosting them or going to them.  My circle of friends has changed completely but also with spouse sick showed me who were "true friends".  Maybe this year, a lightbulb went off of what is really important!

But saddens me that I have my "free spirit" attitude missing -- I visited with family yesterday to celebrate "Christmas".  My biggest enjoyment in about 10 months.

 You'll understand this as a temptation collector - I bought my cousins the "Oceanfetti" sets for Christmas.  Perfect for their beach style homes!

They are "snowbirds" returning home end of April - both have homes within an hour from me.  We spent the day sitting at the pool having a nice lunch and enjoying the visit.

We had a great time: 1 is gonna be a new grandmom for the 1st time and will be moving to SC and the other is moving to CO -- boy I'll miss them Smiley Sad

I plan to return to flying again once we have doctors appointments for spouse this week and get his opinion.  I concern myself with him due to his health as you do with your mom.

I keep my fingers crossed and pray your family continues good health and you get to spoil your new grandchild more this year!

Happy & Blessed Easter

I guess, for me I got sick of seeing the same (searchable) posts over and over with riveting and repeated topics such as:

Do you hate wallpaper?

What do you do with leftovers?

How many sets of Easter dishes do you own?

Do you prefer a bagless or a bagged vacuum?

How often do you take our your trash?

What is the proper way to cut a watermelon?

How many hours does it take you to clean your bathroom?

Do your sponges smell?

How long do your light bulbs last?

Do you use Windex?

How do I change my tired living room without painting or buying furniture?

Do you store your pantry items in the pantry, or elsewhere?

How do you organize your spices: alphabetical order or by date purchased?

Which candle smells like balsam but is not called pine?

Does anyone with kids own a white sofa?

What is a "normal" amount of blankets?

Do you believe in garbage disposals?

What do you do with your dryer lint?

Do you wear rubber gloves to wash dishes?

What flameless candle provides light but is not too bright?

Which shade of white paint is pure white and not bright white?

What temperature do you keep your house?

Do you iron your bedding?

Does anyone have ants?

When was the last time you scrubbed your driveway?

Do your animals shed in the house?

Do you use your dishwasher?

Did I pay too much/not enough for X service?

What is that smell in my ...?
