Remember them from the Q?
I have maybe 6 or 8 of them, all so well made and very functional, most of mine are kitchen related, and I've had them for many years (decades now I guess).
With the fact that Longaberger basket is back in business (in a new and not really original form), and due to the fact that my mom has been wanting some bathroom waste baskets like my Peterboro ones I got years ago, I decided since it is Black Friday, and they always do a big discount at Peterboro (as well as always have free shipping), that I would check out their site to pick one up for her for Christmas.
Well, first off, I can't believe how the prices have gone up over the years at Peterboro. I mean, I shouldn't be surprised, what prices haven't gone up, right? But I had a bit of sticker shock looking at all the baskets, and I'm so glad I have the ones I do (as I really use some of them a lot) and got them back when. I noticed too that a lot of the ones I use/like the most aren't done anymore. I have a couple with ceramic baking inserts, and others with plastic divider inserts with lids. No more ceramics and the plastic divider ones with lids are not nearly the quality of the old inserts.
But still good quality, still free shipping. Except I noticed a handling fee. Not really happy about that. I can see a sales tax, as my state has that, but it didn't show a sales tax. So I don't know if it is really a handling charge, or the tax, but labeled wrong or what, but I never remember a handling charge from them before. Kind of negates the 'free shipping' thing, in my mind.
For Black Friday only, they have 33% off all baskets, if anyone is interested. I'm afraid if I give the code here, the post will be taken down, so I'll just say google and see if you can find the code for holidays and the percentage listed above (cryptic enough?)
Anyway, I always wondered why Q stopped selling them, Especially the kitchen related ones. I will say, when they did stop, and I started going directly to Peterboro, the free shipping was a big bonus.

I also have and still use many Peterboro baskets. I was lucky as I purchased these at the QVC outlet store in Frazer PA, so I got a significant price reduction for each one. I have and still use the large laundry basket, the magazine basket, the "mail sorter" basket and several serving/bread baskets. I also have a Halloween/pumpkin basket that I love. These baskets are probably over 20 years old and are still in perfect condition.
I do understand the pricing "sticker shock". It seems anything of good quality is very expensive. But I am glad that you found something that your mother will love!

Oh to live close enough to go to the QVC outlet stores! I see people post on social media all the time, all the great deals they find at them. I've considered a road trip, but it would be my luck I'd show up on a day when they didn't have anything I'd be interested in!

Yes, I have a Peterboro that has survived several moves in good shape. Always enjoyed the presentations but even back in the day they were pretty pricey.

I still have and use my Peterboro baskets. I am going to look on their site today. I have never shopped on the website..only QVC.
Thanks for the tip.

I purchased several baskets from a website called "Amish Baskets". They have a lot of baskets, prices that I think are good, and everything ships free. The quality of the baskets is fantastic and they're very prompt and friendly.

I still have my Qvc Peterboro magazine basket with the red leather handles. Looks good still. Was pricey but it has lasted a long time. Thanks, I will check out the Amish baskets!

I think anything we bought years and years ago and which we still love will be far better quality than many things we can buy today at anywhere the the same price. Just one more thing about growing older that no one seems to warn us about.
One example here - in 1963, I bought my first new car, a VW Beetle. Left the dealership having agreed to pay $1642 including tax and fees. Would that even pay tax and fees today?

Used to greatly enjoy their presentation, a joy to watch.
