I figure looking at my tub is no different than looking at and using my toilet!

ITA When I go into someone's bathroom and the shower curtain is closed I assume the bathtub is dirty.

So do I....and I always peek to see if it is.

Uh oh - do you also peek in the medicine cabinet?

Re: Never did ""get"" this look

I used to have the double panel with valance and tied back on both ends. I only had the one bathroom (old home) so guests saw it. I would keep the matching liner closed and have the fabric panels pulled back. I love the country look (always have) and this gave it the country feel. I only have the one panel now in my guest bath but it is a country look fabric panel. The only ones who use that tub is the grandkids when they spend the night and that is not that often. Sears still sells these types of shower curtains. I still think it looks very nice but maybe I am just a little old fashioned (and over 55).

I don't see anything wrong with posting about something you're not crazy about.{#emotions_dlg.blink}

I don't care for the look either, but the tailored version someone showed looks quite nice. I have seen the full ruffle version in pictures and don't like that look at all.

I don't think the tie backs and valances are very sanitary. I doubt they get washed often.

KathyPet:

I use this same look in both our master bath as well as our main bath. The use of fabric helps to soften the hard edges of a bathroom and gives it a softer look. In my master bath I used a Toile but only put it across the top and down one side of the shower so as to leave easy access to get in and out from the other side. In the main bath I used a lace fabric so as to not darken the room...I think it looks pretty. I sold real estate for 35 years and a lot of the high end homes that employed decorators sported this look as well.

There's nothing to get or not get about about it, it's just one more way to decorate and it's a look that some people like but I did get a kick out of your "looking out the window" comment...cute {#emotions_dlg.lol}

Maria

P.S. I watch reruns of Hazel (yeah, no life, I know...lol) and the lady of the house, Dorothy, played the part of a decorator. Anyway, she actually used fabric inside of her doorways leading from one room to another and I just LOVE that look as well. I'm a fool for fabric...

Re: Never did ""get"" this look

It's simply a more formal look for a bathroom. A normal shower curtain closed makes the bathroom look smaller. The open drapery look emphasizes an attractive tub and surround and dresses up the bathroom. I never thought of it as a "window". Some people hang draperies or material around their poster beds too, not a window connection with those either.

Curly, the look of having drapes in each doorway was a very common theme pre 1960s. If someone loves fabric, and keeping it clean, I love the look.

As far as the curtains on the tub, I'm fine with it. It cuts the harsh look of a bathroom. Whenever someone has their shower curtain closed, I assume they're hiding a dirty shower/tub. It also makes the bathroom appear smaller.

I hide my old tub, that's for sure, ha, ha. I agree with Anniecamp, it's a look. When I get a new shiny, white tub I'll probably keep the shower curtain open and stare at it all day LOL.

Re: Never did ""get"" this look

I actually have chenille curtains in my doorways of my small cottage. I like that vintage look and for me it's practical. They're 3/4 of the doorway height. Cats can go in and out, you have privacy and also works for keeping A/C or heat in or out depending on season. Just have two bedroom doors. Also put on on slider so cats can look out, but you could only see my feet if you looked in. Works for me. Also removed the old sliding closet doors when I moved in and replaced them with curtains made out of vintage fabric. It's a cozy look to me.

That's why we have a glass frameless shower door.......and that bathroom is the "upstairs", guest bathroom that never gets used, other than the toilet. Even when we have guest, they beg to use our master bath with the huge walk-in shower ;-)
