Dumb question.....but how am I supposed to removed the cardboard protective packaging from around the candle in the 12 inch lantern?  Am I supposed to unscrew the bottom of the unit?  I couldn't find anything in the  meager instructions.  Thanks!

Re: Luminara Lantern Question

I used my Kuhn Rikon shears very carefully.  Therer is some kind of tape about half way up on that heavy cardboard protector but you have to be mindful of the flame feature. They definately need to rethink this packaging method.

Re: Luminara Lantern Question

Thanks, Fressa, I agree with re-thinking the packaging!  I've even e-mailed them.  I ended up doing something similar to what you mentioned, very carefully cutting off bits and pieces.  Success with the first one.  One more to go.  I would have thought that if you were supposed to unscrew the bottom to remove the packaging that they would have that in the instructions.  Thanks for responding.  At least I don't feel alone!

Re: Luminara Lantern Question

I had to unpack my 12" the same way--tiny bit by tiny bit.  My second 12" is due for delivery today, so guess I'll be having another unpacking adventure.  I pre ordered the 16", and it arrived 2 weeks ago.  Strange....the packaging on that 16" was completely different than on the 12", and it was very easy to remove.  Styrofoam wedges were used to protect the inside rather than that hard-to-remove cardboard sleeve.

Re: Luminara Lantern Question

And as if that wasn't enough "stress" for me, opening 2 of the 12 inch lanterns, I then proceeded to unpack the mosaic cylinder that I saw on a recent Valerie show.  The dense styrofoam was packed to tightly inside the  cylinder that I had to also take that out "bit by bit".  You can only guess the mess that styrofoam makes!  I had it all over me and my kitchen.  I'm sure there are more "particles" of it floating around here that I have caught yet!

I can understand the need to properly protect these items for shipping, but they really do need to provide some instructions as to how best (and easiest) to unpack without potentially damaging the item!

@Krimpette  I just kept pulling, and eventually, the foam inside came out in one piece.   Most other styrofoam I receive is horrible!  It crumbles at a mere touch, and I have that on the kitchen mats as it sticks to the material, and have even pulled it off of my dogs muzzles, it clings to everything.  Styrofoam of years ago was so much better, though I hate it all,  but it does protect items the best.

Every time I though I got a good hold of it, a chunk would come off in my hands.  Very frustrating.  But worth the effort!  For both the mosaic column and for the lanterns.  However, right now I decided I deserve a wine break!!!!!!!!!!Woman Wink

Re: Luminara Lantern Question

I seem to remember this was a problem last time the lanterns were a TSV.  Being very careful is all you can do.

@Krimpette, Maybe if you would have had that glass of wine before you unpacked it, you would have an entirely different story, lol.
