has anyone had their kitchen cabinets professionally painted? Our cabinets are wood and in good condition, just outdated. Or have you had them resurfaced and new doors? Wondering how much it would cost  and if your satisfied before I get estimates.thank you in advance.

About 10 years ago I had my kitchen cabinets refaced, had new doors put on.  It was a smaller size kitchen and cost about $7,000 -$8,000.  That was in California.  I now live in GA and I've seen many advertisments for painting cabinets.  Seems to be popular here.

We just had a company called N-Hance do all our cabinets. Google them as they are franchised and there is most likely one near you.

I've been waiting to see other responses....unless cabinets are really old and damaged - I would spend the money on new cabinet doors.  Sides and inside of cabinets are not really visible to most people. Much cheaper.  However, if you decide to paint - get a professional painter who will know which paints hold up best to cooking oils (on your hands) and cleaning.  Have fun!

refacing cost nearly as much as getting nice, new cabinets where I live. I had not moved in my home yet so it was easier to do that than if I had been living there. You can use chalk paint to paint your cabinets in so many colors and it's non toxic. I have done a couple of pieces of furniture - it's super easy, no prep, etc. Most places that sell offer a class to learn how.

I had my cabinets painted.  They were an older golden oak and were in very good condition even though they were 25 years old.  I hired a company to come in to paint 28 doors and 10 drawers then of course the frames etc.  They used a commercial Sherwin Williams paint colored to match a Valspar sample I had.  It took them 2 very full days and came out beautifully.   2 years ago it cost $2400 to do.  Oh, they also came back to do a few touch ups at the 3 month mark, at no extra charge.

We had our cabinets resurfaced this past October.  Our kitchen is larger than average (but not by much) and we paid around $12,000.  I thought that was high, but Then I’m shocked at how much everything has gone up.  We are in the northeast where I’m guessing we pay higher prices than in some other areas of the country.

We absolutely love the result so I’m happy we had them done.  We chose an ivory bead board style and the room is so much brighter.

i I hope you’re happy with whatever choice you make!

Your cabinets do look beautiful - but I'm surprised how expensive the job was. I hate my kitchen cabinets -- I have many - but I won't spend that kind of money so I'll have to live with it.

I complete agree with you @kivah.  I thought the price was too high.  But I do know that it would have been more expensive to get new cabinets.  I thought about getting additional quotes, but the contractor we used had all rave reviews so we went for it.  If I didn’t absolutely love the end result, I would be really upset about spending so much money.

You might look into having your cabinets painted.  I have a couple of friends who went that route and they look beautiful.  Also quite a but cheaper than refacing and certainly less than new cabinets.

Re: Kitchen cabnets

[ Edited ]

I had mine re-laminated with a light solid color. Previously they were a very dark brown, mahogany-looking wood veneer and that made my kitchen very dark. The cabinets themselves are solid wood construction stained with that same dark, mahogany stain. After putting the light colored doors and drawer fronts on them then the contrast was very nice looking. All the hardware was updated, too.

The job didn't cost me a thing because a relative who did that job owns his own cabinet company. I'm grateful.Woman Happy
