Re: Kitchen & Living Room Remodel

A beautiful space.  The after is well done.  The space is open and inviting.

I don't like it. It's all crammed together. That fireplace looks rustic while the rest looks standard rental. I don't want a kitchen in my living room or a living room in my kitchen.

Re: Kitchen & Living Room Remodel

I strongly dislike open concept rooms. I lived with it in our first home in the 70's and 80's and literally hated it. I like my privacy while I am cooking ....

Re: Kitchen & Living Room Remodel

Open concepts remind me of stores where there are groupings of furniture meant to represent various rooms in a home.

If more than two people are at home, a private conversation is impossible. If there are pets and an allergic or fearful person happens by, there is no separate room to confine the pets or the person.

Re: Kitchen & Living Room Remodel

I'm one of those people who still have mixed feelings about opening up the kitchen to the main living area of the house.

I'm getting much more used to it, and this remodel is nice. But if that is the main or formal 'living room' I still am bugged by having the kitchen so exposed to that area.

I come from a time, and still like the look, of formal entertaining. That being a formal and separate dining room for meals, where you don't see the kitchen and the mess, and a more separate and formal living room where you can entertain visitors, and again, they don't have to look at the dirty dishes left in the kitchen or dining room after a meal has been prepared/served.

Life had gotten much more casual, and the houses I grew up in and have previously owned had these 'formal' features, although the homes were not 'grand' (nor was our lifestyle) in the least.

I see the value of a family room open to a kitchen, as it brings together those working and those relaxing/visiting, and I'm getting more used to a more open look, but I still prefer more traditional separations of kitchen, formal dining, and formal living rooms.

I like the finished area, it is warm and inviting and comfortable looking.   Even the island chairs look comfortable !!!!  It is a very appealing look in general!!!!!

The after is gorgeous, but would not go with glass top tables, too hard to keep clean!, and they look horrible if they are not spotless!

Re: Kitchen & Living Room Remodel

I think the after is fabulous.  I love the fireplace and in fact, have the same stacked stone look in my house.

Do I love everything about it?  No; but I think it's a great reno.
