Our kitchen is gutted and I'm trying to decide on EVERYTHING all at once..... ugh.
One thing is the kitchen waste cans. Do I want them in a drawer?
At home they are in a drawer, but I'm not wild about the idea. It seemed to be a 'must have' by our kitchen designer.
The back can is for recycleables, but my grandchildren will accidently put regular trash in. Oy.
And when my hands are wet or messy, I hate having to pull the knob to open the drawer. So lots of times I leave it open a little, which my husband complains about because he bumps into it.
I don't like having the cans out, and I'm not going to put them in a closet because it's clear across the room. Some people put them in their pantry closet, but that kind of skeeves me out.
What to do? What works best for you? Give me some ideas!

A couple years ago we had our kitchen redone. My trash can used to be under my sink inside the cabinet but after the remodel it is inside a drawer pull out next to the sink. It has two bins, one for recyclables. I like it. It is handy.

I like easy access to the waste bin, so mine is always exposed. it's in the kitchen right beside the counter. it's tall and uncovered. it never smells and it's always neat! I hate messy trash and we always throw garbage in carefully. therefore, it's not an eyesore. I'll never store it in a cabinet because it's cumbersome to keep opening and closing the door, and imo, it might smell more easily and feel musty in there. yuck. i also have another bin for recyclables just right beside it. hope you find a way that works best for you. ![]()

My trash can is inside a wooden cabinet that was made by the Amish specifically for concealing it. I do not like the look of a trash can sitting out in the open in a kitchen,

Our kitchen trash is under the sink. Recyclables are in a four sided particle box DH made to the size for a newspaper. The blue bag fits perfectly with about a three inch foldover over the top edge. We have that in the pantry which is a ten by ten room off of the kitchen.

The trash can is in a pull out cabinet. I like that it's concealed.

That is something I would like, but no.
Mine is down at one end of the kitchen so it's not prominent and at least it's somewhat attractive - well, as attractive as a trash can can be. I have an oval-shaped, brushed stainless steel, battery-operated one in my kitchen. The bag is hidden, which I do like. I once had one where you could see the top of the bag sticking out.

When we were first married we got a weimaraner - she trained us to get the trash somewhere she could not get to it - so we have always had the kind that is in the cupboard under the sink that has 2 cans and pulls out like a drawer. We too keep recycling in one and trash in the other. Generally, most of our garbage goes into the disposal so what goes into the trash is just wrappers etc and I rinse what goes into the recycler per our county regulations.
When i start to prepare food I usually open the cupboard and pull out the cans so I won't have to get the handle dirty with stuff on my hands from cooking. When everything is prepped I close it up.

11 years ago we redid the kitchen and I went with 2 doors hiding the two garbage cans. I regret not getting the pull out drawer. It would have been cleaner and easier for me. I just didn't know I had a choice. Other than that l like having the garbage hidden.

In my old home, it was out in a corner in the kitchen but it wasn't seen, in my new home it's in a drawer and I find I love this more.
