While doing some purging/decluttering yesterday, I got rid of all of our placemats I have collected over the years and bought a few sets of these rattan chargers from World Market...

I can't wait to get them!!! {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

Those ae really nice! I would love them with your green dishes! Also the Christmas dishes with the deer would be awesome on those charges. Kind of adds a woodsy look to the forest scene and the deer!

Re: How large is your dinnerware collection?

I currently have 7 extra sets of china, services for 8. I felt that with 3 sons who would marry, I would give the girls their choice. Well, I still have 7 extra sets. None of them are the least bit interested!

For regular daily use I have Corelle "Watercolor". I like it because it is light weight and makes the dishwasher easy to load.

When I turned 16 my mother took me shopping for my china & silver. Does that date me??! I picked a white pattern with a sketched rose in black. Each piece has a rose in a different stage of bloom. Considering that I chose this over 50 years ago, it is surprisingly contemporary.

I just had a dinner party tonight and used my collected pieces of Bordallo Cabbage shaped dishes. Right now I can serve 11 with these. I started finding them at Tuesday Morning and TJMax, but they have become popular again and are not easy to find anymore. I would never have thought they would be so versatile, but augmented with my serving items that look like fruits and veggies, they make a fun table in all seasons.

I have an albatross in my basement also. My mother's service for 20 of Blue Willow... every serving piece ever made and napkins too. I HATE this pattern, but it was my mom's. I really wish someone had wanted it, a service for 20 could be handy someday. Well, our immediate family has grown to 15, so perhaps I'll have to unpack it one of these days!

Wow! At 16!!! That was nice of your folks Smile

When I moved into my apt a couple of years after I started college, there was no send off with any goodies...like dinnerware or silverware. Everything I got for my apt I bought myself right from the start. The only thing I brought with me was my twin bed, clothes and belongings. I picked up the bare necessities the month prior to moving at garage sales...like a few pots and pans, dish towels and even curtains. I had hand sewn them to fit the windows too.

Growing up, there was never any extra sets of dinnerware. For everyday we used Cornelle and pyrex pieces...like those small custard cups. For Sunday dinners & holidays the Franciscan Desert Rose would be used. As you didn't like your mom's Blue Willow, I didn't like the Desert Rose either. The special silverware set they had was only used on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

Albatross...Too Funny! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

You certainly have a large family and no doubt that set might get used yet!!!

Hi Susan Louise, I'm really loving the Bonjour Sierra Pine plates. I have recently become very fond of a lot of the shades of green.

I did get the BH& Gardens large platter at Walmart and have it displayed on an easel in our dining room. Wanted the set of eight salad plates our WM's didn't get them in and I went online too late.

I'm glad you've found some pretty new dishes. Smile I haven't been on here much lately so I'm behind in knowing what's going on with everyone.

Hi Lucymo,

I'm not on that much here either lately...the wind down of all the hoopla after decorating. I kinda miss all the excitement on the forum of the getting the decor, which is really fun.

The Bonjour plates just seem to be the perfect shade of green...kinda like a cameleon. For example, in my post with all the plates, you would think that the 3rd salad plate down (from the Bonjour pic) would not really go well...not the best green matchup between the tree in the center and the Bonjour plate. However, the tree actually has varying shades of green in it so it goes quite well.

I'm close to being finished with collecting holiday/dinnerware which has been mainly different salad plates. Now I would just like to find a couple of 4-pc salad plate sets for Spring/Summer and I'll be done.

I cleared off a shelf in a shelving unit in our basement for the dinnerware to make it easy to change them from time to time Smile

Re: How large is your dinnerware collection?

My Dad was a china fanatic. He always said that he grew up in a poor family in Italy so they never had any dishes that matched. So once his career was well established he went crazy buying good bone china dishes. He even purchased some for me and my brother. After both Mom and Dad had passed away my brother and I each took a couple sets but there were so many that we sold some in an estate sale. All my dishes are bone china .. even my every day dishes. Most are Tiffany or Mikasa. I think I have at least 5 or 6 sets.

Re: How large is your dinnerware collection?

I have 14 place settings of fine china that I received as wedding gifts. I have 20 place settings of causal holiday dishes my father bought me when I started hosting Christmas at my house for the entire family. And I just replaced my everyday dishes with 16 place settings of basic white dishes from Crate and Barrel that were on sale.

25 or more place settings. I married into a very large family and the sister-in-laws were not too happy that I didn't use their mom's mismatched china. I worked at Macy's and bought it there and TJ Maxx.

Hi Susan Louise

I have actually had these chargers for several years. They will go great with your Christmas dinnerware (love that green!). I like to use them in my fall tablescapes.

They're also good to use as candle plates and pile some greenery around it.

Re: How large is your dinnerware collection?

One of the first lessons I applied after reading Elaine St. James' "Simplify Your Life" is reducing the amount of serving pieces. Living in an apartment, the max # of people I have is 2, so I packed up a full serving for 2 (plate, bowl, salad plate, coffee cup & dish) and donated it to Salvation Army. Remaining set of serving pieces for 2 is perfect. And the extra visual space is soothing to my eye. I DID get an add'l full serve set of Oneida flatware....I go through spoons! That was mid-90's...has worked perfectly. The art of simplicity.
