Living in an apartment, the max # of people I have is 2, so I packed up a full serving for 2 (plate, bowl, salad plate, coffee cup & dish) and donated it to Salvation Army. Remaining set of serving pieces for 2 is perfect. And the extra visual space is soothing to my eye. I DID get an add'l full serve set of Oneida flatware....I go through spoons! That was mid-90's...has worked perfectly. The art of simplicity.
I totally "get" the simplicity theory - really! But I seem to forget it when I fall in love with a china pattern. Do agree about the serving pieces though - it's really not necessary to have tureen, platter, sugar/creamer for everything.

My most recent find/purchase/addition to our dinnerware is Bonjour Sierra Pine. It mixes and matches so well with most of my other new dinnerware. Here's a pic:
The dinner plates look awesome with these salad plates we have on top:
AND, ALL of the Better Homes & Gardens salad plates...
It's amazing what a terrific green hue this set is...goes well with so many other designs/dinnerware...and nearly as versatile as white or ivory! IT is a VERY inexpensive set I purchased through Walmart dot com. The individual 4-pc sets of just the dinner plates are also at a 'rollback' price of $17.97 now too
Love the one with the tree in the center and lacy looking outer edge SL. What a nice collection you have.
Does Wal mart still have the set with the cardinal on the left side. Love that one and would love to get a set. I checked their website but didn't come up with it.
TIA

Hi JPC,
The plate you like with the tree and red lace around the rim is 'Old Britain Castles' by Johnson Brothers. I ordered them from Wayfair...quite reasonably priced.
As for a plate with a Cardinal on the left side...Hmmmm...did you mean my other left (the right side)?
I'm confused...the only plate in my post with a cardinal is on the right side of the plate and I didn't get it at Walmart. It's Lenox 'Winter Greeting'...also available at Wayfair

I'm so glad I'm not the only one addicted to lovely dishes. Courtesy of the Air Force, I've been able to live in Europe which only added to my addiction! Even have R osenthal large plates that were probably platters that we've used for buffets. Have 2 sets of china with service for 12, 2 sets of 8 servings of Christmas dishes, Mikasa and the Lenox Winter Greetings, I think, it has just the red cardinals and not the extra ribbon, etc., around edge. Even added a Christmas tree to the dining room of just red cardinals and lights. Everyday dishes are Portmerion Harvest Blue that was made just for 3 or 4 years. But I have service for 8 and lots and lots of extra pieces. Got lucky and picked up from different stores as they were in clearance. Have a lovely set of Westmoreland Milk Glass (scalloped edge with grapes) in service of 4 only. Hope one of my kids likes it as much as I do. Have my MIL's wedding china and that was 100 years old. And a set of Spode plates that are blue. Forget the pattern.
Since I'm now 80 it is probably time to quit. But I do have the dining room table set for 6 at all times and constantly change out the dishes. Guests are always thrilled to see a table set appropriately for a change with the silverware on the correct side. I'm amazed at how poorly people set a table anymore--and eating on a bare wooden table does me in!
It seems that families don't seem to have time to sit and eat a meal together with all their hurried schedules. Too bad as that is also where they learn good manners and how to set a nice table.

When my MIL passed away, no one else wanted her simple platinum banded china. I only had stoneware, so I was happy to take ownership of the china. Turns out, when all was fully unpacked I have 8 piece place settings for 30, and even better - the space to store them. It was intoxicating for me to realize I had more than enough for a full family gathering.
My everday is Correlle, and my wedding stoneware is Royal Dalton. So, all told I have 3 different dinnerware sets.

Duh, Susan Louise, boy did I have a brain fade when I wrote that. Yep it is the right side, just looked at my ring finger and they are on the left.
Guess my old age is catching up fast.
Thanks for the info. Love them both. Will have to check them out. Thanks for the info.
Happy Holiday to you SL

My first set for a shower gift was Melmac which after several years I replaced with a set Macy's had. In 1990 if bought Johnson Bros. Regency pattern and still have it. Have a complete set and sugar, creamer, etc. I love it and will always keep it. My China for wedding registry is Mikasa which I have very seldom used. I also have a set of Christmas dishes from Macy's which was discontinued several years ago. Beautiful pattern.

Must add that I love when photos are posted of various dishes/patterns.

I was given a set of Corelle Spring Blossom Green dinner set and bakeware when we married in the late 70's, added to it over the years and then couldn't stand it another minute and wanted a pattern that I would love, bought the Corelle (again) but in the Fruit Pattern. I don't know why I got Corelle again, it was nice but I wanted to collect and use something that I absolutely loved and I now have a set of Polish Stoneware dishware, cookware, etc. that's taken me about 15 years to collect. Used the Fruit Pattern up until I had enough collected to actually use (about 5 years ago)... I never minded the Corelle, it's a great product but was never my favorite. I use the Polish Stoneware daily, it's as tough as nails, has taken a beating and I've only chipped one coffee cup in all these years.... and every time I take out a piece I think, gosh I'm glad I bought this!

Oh, it's ok...it's 'your bit'!! My dearly departed sissy loved pretty tableware & she would entertain a lot. She would drag me to every store that had 'Fitz and Floyd' pieces & drool over them!! Gosh, haven't thought about that in a while...thanks for giving me that memory!
