On 4/23/2014 colliegirls said:I got little ants every spring around my kitchen window. I had checked on line for a non-toxic repellent. I have been using baby powder for years now and have not seen an ant since. And, it smells so good!!!
I do this also. Baby powder works great. I had read about that years ago and tried it and it really does work. And also agree, it smells good! ![]()
Put it along side your baseboards, around the toilet, the door to your house. They don't cross the line I guess, kind of like the cinnamon. Never tried the cinnamon, cause that is more expensive than baby powder.

I get tiny ants in the master bath every year when the weather turns hot. As soon as I see them coming, I put a tiny trail of cinnamon around the baseboards. It works great and is not dangerous or even attractive for my cats.
You do have to get rid of the ones that have already come in. Luckily, I manage to catch them when there are just a few. I vacuum them up!

spray Simple Green -- works great. You could also spray outside ur house (backyard). I've used those small ant traps called Combat for inside/outside house. If u spray then u can't use those small plastic traps.

I had an ant problem until I use white vinegar. I would spray the trail of ants, cleaned all counters, cabinets, etc. with the vinegar. Rubbed all windows, door seals, and other places where they were coming in with the white vinegar. No more ants after a few days! The vinegar confesses their sense of smell and they can not smell food past the vinegar. It also confuses them and they lose the trails they made. The vinegar is safe for children and pets. Hope this helps.

After our first winter in Florida when we returned to our home in Pa we had terrible ants - we called Terminex to come and spray for them as we were putting the house up for sale and didn't want the ants to become an issue. They were gone as soon as that was done. Then the next year when we returned to our Florida home after snowbirding home to Pa for 4 months we had them here so we called an exterminator to spray and , once again, they were gone immediately. I think they use a much more powerful chemical than you can buy for home use. We have not had them since but we have continuing service from our exterminator ever since then.

I won't use anything toxic, inside or outside....but would NEVER inside.
I had ants coming in my backdoor area a few years ago (there's a crack in the cement directly below my backdoor area). I researched, & it said white vinegar keeps ants away. I sprayed the outside area first, then sprayed the path they were taking indoor. I did this every day for probably 2 weeks (don't remember exactly). I had to find the ants that were already inside, of course. Ants are REALLY smart, & have memory. They DO NOT like white vinegar, & they haven't returned....I there are plenty of ants in my yard. Each spring/summer I spray the same area around my backdoor, & so far, so good!
I use white vinegar for so many things...I'd never be without it. I get the 2-pack jumbo sizes at Costco (very cheap!)

I'm another fan of Terro. Last year I had them in the bathroom. I have never seen ants there. When we are in our RV I keep Terro ant traps by all the tires. I've never had ants in there.
