Getting Your House Back in Order ~ How long?

[ Edited ]

Just curious.....how long does it take to get your house back in order after the holidays?

I started taking down all my vignettes today and will leave the tree (just one this year) up till New Years. It will take me about a week to complete my new "feel' for the house.

I always enjoy this time.....it feels fresh and new. How about you?

My Christmas stuff comes down surprisingly quickly. I'm usually done by noon. It takes several days to get everything out and up, but maybe four hours to take it all down and pack it away.

I like leaving my Christmas up for as long as possible and I enjoy every minute of it.  Not in any hurry to put anything away.  Season is way too short for me.

Spoiler

We took all indoor decorations down this morning. It’s too stinking cold to mess with outdoor decor as west Michigan is in on the yucky cold snap that is likely to sit on top of us for at least another week. We have a Direct TV installer coming next Tuesday to install new receivers and I want everything around and behind the TVs all cleaned up and dusted well before he gets here. I bought a few new ornaments this year, which means that some old ones are going in the trash or will be donated to a thrift store. Everything’s back in its place.

My only decor is my Christmas tree. I'll take that down on New Year's day. It usually takes about an hour.

I try to be extremely careful when putting things away . I wrap everything in bubble wrap and pack it tightly etc so nothing gets broken when my klutzy DH manhandles them into the cupboard. For this reason it takes me a day to take down the tree and a day for everything else. Since my housekeeper is coming on wed the 3rd I plan to get it all down and away the 1st & 2nd. then she can make everything nice and sparkling clean the 3rd. then by my birthday on the 5th my home will be back how I love it.

Son is closing on condo tomorrow and his stuff is all over our place. So my stuff will stay up until after he has moved out and we are back from visiting mothers out of state. Probably end of January. But I agree about the space and freshness.

Given that some stores had Christmas stuff out in the summer, and on the 23rd I was in the Dollar General and saw Valentines stuff out already. So, the season seems to be lasting longer and longer. Who says you can't put lights up before Thanksgiving? Do what makes you happy. You can change your tree into a "love tree" for Valentines, a "shamrock tree" for St. Patrick's, and so on.
